Question about artillery fire and reinforcement

I learned from a former post, that Artillery can also provide defensive fire (when being attacked during my opponets turn) when she is "yellow".

But what I dont know is, how ofen can a single unit provide this cover fire when beĆng attacked. Only once, or as often as the combat is in range of the Artillery?

Another thing which I dont know is the sceduled reinforment.

What happens to this units when their city/supply point is already conquered. Do I loose this units, or do they show up regardless of who owns this field (behind the lines in enemy territory), or will this units arrive but at a different supply point, which I still own.

Thank you for the help,

Finrod

ART can provide defensive support as many times as it is within range to do so in one turn.

Reinforcements, it depends upon what the scenario designer has entered into the scenario when they created it. A reinforcement point can be set to always sent the reinforcements to that point, or it can be set to send them to an alternate reinforcement point with X turns delay if the enemy is within Y hexes of that one.

Thanks Rob, for the help.

Any idea what the default settings for reinforcement for the 48 turn Korsun Scenario are?

So, in one turn, a hex is attacked 3 times in one turn: How many times will friendly artillery provide a defensive shift?

And: a reinforcement hex is overrun: Will the reinforcement units arrive on a different hex? Yes, No or maybe?

Tell me what hex the units arrive on and I can look it up in the editor if you like..

Joe: as I understand it, if a hex is attacked 3 times in one turn and there is one friendly ART unit within range, then it will provide support each of those 3 times. If I am wrong could someone please state otherwise..

Reinforcements.. it depends on what is stated for that reinforcement point in the editor. See my previous post..

I just did some testing, Reinforcements will never enter an reinforcement hex if its enemy owned. If the reinforcement hex has a alternative hex set for when it is controlled by the enemy then the reinforcements will divert to that hex with X turn delays (as set in the editor by the designer). There is also a setting for the reinforcement hex that says "Never Divert". If this is set then the units will NOT come on board until you take that you control that hex again.

Thanks Rob - this is all news to me - I should read the manual ;)

As far as the artillery goes, I am not entirely sure, but my understanding is that only a supplied non-used artillery provides defensive fire, and only once (as it uses its bullet). This is how I base all my offensive and defensive moves. God I hope it is right.

I will test now and report back.

Edit: Rob is absolutely correct. Artillery will provide a defensive for any number of combats if it is within range. It can have used its combat power in the preceding turn.

I cannot tell you how much this is going to influence my strategy :)

Will artillery provide defensive shifts to the hex it's in? I've been assuming not, but it makes a difference, since some of the better defensive artillery units also have very high defense ratings....

Excellent question! And I have no idea.

I have lost plenty of games to people who love to use artillery in frontline positions but I cannot bring myself to do it

My ART doods feel left out unless I let them be in the frontlines :)
