Well I've talked Luskan into doing a a PBEM with him as the IJN and me as the Allies. I have some plans that will stray from history, but that is only because I feel that the politians of the day got it wrong. PLEASE REMEMBER THE THIS GAME IS STILL IN ALPHA, AND THIS PBEM IS BEING DONE MAINLY FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT AS MUCH AS FOR TESTING. ANY BUGS OR STRANGE COMBAT RESULTS THAT GET MISSED IN THE EDITTING BEFORE IT IS POSTED HERE WILL NOT BE DISCUSSED (HOWEVER I WOULD WELCOME ANY COMMENTS ON FAULTY OOB) Those of you who have followed the three AARs that we posted in UV will know what to expect......for the rest of you...grab the popcorn, crack a beer, sit back and enjoy!

I get an email from Raver calling me a boofhead, insulting my intelligence and smacking me in the mouth with a gauntlet! How could I refuse?
Happy for any criticisms or comments anyone wants to post - as long as you take the alpha disclaimer blah blah blah (hell, if I loose this you all know I'm going to blame the build etc.).
Raver has dropped a hint that he is going to do what the australian government of the time should have done. If anyone knows what that is, it is never too late to post
I mean, it could really only be three options right?
a: save the aussie divisions from the disaster at singapore by pulling them out and sending them to india,
b: pushing the aussies north to the solomons, rabaul and PNG strongholds on day 1 (even with the starting advantage I've got, if he decides to do this he'll get there first by a long way),
or c: withdrawing from the commonwealth, leaving the allied side and declaring war on all the other nations of the earth, be they allied, axis or neutral, and subsequently conquering them all in order to spread the four gospels of rugby, AFL, beer and tall women . . . It is what I'd have done!
I have already completed an extremely long first turn (finding all the arty units sitting around the home islands and sending them off to my defensive perimeter on the mainland took ages - not mobile enough to use in invasions etc.) I expect the rest to run like clockwork.
I'm not going to overextend myself, and hopefully Raver won't be able to resist and will rush reinforcements in (since I'm not advancing too quick) and then I'll nail the bastard.
I, like many other Aussies on the forum have already expressed, am thoroughly looking forward to bombing New Zealand.

Allthought choice "c" sounds most likely, I'd go with "A". But send em back to Darwin, or some west coast base. Wasn't Australian's PM Curtin, a not so big fan of Churchill's plan of battle? I believe- and correct me if I am wrong- he wanted to pull all of his country's units out of Europe and redeploy them at the home front.

troops from Europe and Africa the day Churchill announced he was sending
troops to Greece. Winnie was a marvelous talker, but a disaster at strategy.
Option D
Bomb anything KIWI, Blast anything Kiwi, send all forces available to Kiwi land, destroy Kiwi land!!!, and remove any vestige of the menace to the empire going by the name wobbly!

Australia copped a raw deal during WW2...no thanks to Churchill.

As always the Aussies have got the wrong end of the strategic stick. If you want to kill more Kiwis bomb Sydney (just don't hit homebush stadium - we have a date with that venue in late November!).Luskan wrote: I, like many other Aussies on the forum have already expressed, am thoroughly looking forward to bombing New Zealand.

pretty shabbily as well. Shows great restraint that no Aussie ever punched
that ego-maniac in the nose.
The Game starts..............
The morning sun rises on the pacific nations but it's cheerful rays cannot penetrate the political gloom the that has settled on the region.
For months now there has been a deepening rift between the British and Australian governments over the issue of the 2nd AIF, and British resistance to allow the Aussie troops to return home. Churchill has been arguing that in the light of baseless threats there is little need to release troops that are sorely needed in the Middle East, and indeed if a threat was to arise, the British fleet based at Singapore is well placed to defend the interests of the British Empire and those of the Commonwealth. Singapore itself, is one of the great fortresses and has been built to withstand and repel any attack upon it.
Such soothing reassurances however have done little to calm the Australian Government , which is increasing concerned with it's lack of defensive measures in the face of growing Japanese imperialistic designs on the region. The Australian Government has slowly become aware of the fallacy of the "Fortress Singapore" myth but now finds itself trapped by it's own lies. For the last twenty years it has been happy to allow the nations' military to wind down always pointing to Singapore as the bulwark against the "yellow peril". It was always cheaper to help fund the construction of Singapore than it was to support a large armed forces. Having continually fed the public the line that Singapore will defend Australia, it is difficult if not political suicide to now claim that it is all a sham.
Reports now coming from top military aids paint a depressing picture, the cream of the Australian Army is half a world away fighting the Germans in the Middle East, (and the British strategy in the mid east has been at times spotty, what with the disaster in Greece and Crete) the Royal Australian Navy has it's most experienced fighting ships based in the Mediterranean and Britton has still not come through with the promise of modern fighters and bombers for the defence of Australia even though thousands of airmen and being sent to England to serve in the airwar. it all seems like a one-way street, in Britains favoured.
If the Japanese were to strike south, there is little or nothing to defend Australia.
The Dutch Government in-exile has simular worries, but is loath to push the British too hard as their homeland is now under the yoke of the Nazis and for better or worse the Dutch hope lays with the British in regaining a Europe free of Hitler.......to push the English in the east is to jeopardize the liberation of Holland.
Britton for it's part is increasingly worried about Australia's attitude towards the war. Churchill is committed if not blinded to a "Germany first" policy and the continual snipping from the antipodes is wearing thin. Take the outrages demand by the Australian Government that the Australian elements of the Tobruk garrison should be withdrawn lest it fall. (The last Australian troops were replaced over a period stretching from August to December 1941 by an all British garrison......Tobruk subsequently fell soon after). That demand alone caused a huge rift in relations between Downing St and Canberra. And now the Australians are demanding more troops be sent home for a defence of a yet to be defined threat from Japan? To bend to the Australian demands would put a serious strain on the rest of the Commonwealth, if we open ourselves up to the Australian Government demands, then what is to stop other Commonwealth Governments from making spurious demands?
And what if Japan does strike? What is the worse that could happen? It might try and take the Philippines but that would only bring the US into the war (something to be encouraged). It could even take Hong Kong (mainly garrisoned with Canadian troops) and maybe launch attacks against Singapore, but even if it did so, it is not as serious a threat to the British mainland as is Germany, hence the "Germany First" Policy. If anything the worse thing that could happen is an attack by Japan on the USSR, this would bleed the soviets on two fronts and ease pressure on the Germans -even though they are making astounding gains the moment - and not necessarily bring in the Americans into the war.
No all in all the far east is just that, the FAR east. Better to let things find their own level, and hope like hell the Japanese do something stupid.
The US for it's part is untouched by war, and is struggling to decide if it shall commit it's sons' once again to a European battlefield. But already the things are already afoot, with the recent signing of the lend-lease act, American industry is already part of the European war if only in name. But there are disturbing signals coming from the Pacific. Japan which seems intent on the wholesale destruction of China but has been slapped in the face by an oil embargo. Sure things diplomatically are a bit tense but Japan knows the there is a large US Fleet in Hawaii that is more than it's match, as well as the large well prepared defences in the Philippines.
No all told it is just another lazy sunny Sunday morning in the pacific.

A6M2 loss at PH
Hi, I think he lost so many A6M2 at PH because he set them to sweep 100 feet and AA shot them to pieces.
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!
Mr.Frag wrote:Luskan, might I inquire as to why you didn't park 3 divisions + some MSW (minefields in port) into Manilla as a cutoff point and save your air force boys for something worth fighting instead of wasting them over Clark?
Or are you two going to play a historical version?
Nothing personal Mr Frag, as I am sure that is a perfectly viable strategy in this current alpha build, but if that utterly nonsensical strategy results in anything less than mass sepu-ku for the IJN, then something is very, very wrong.
NOTE: The minefields guarding Manila bay were "wired" and could be manually detonated from a control center on Corrigedore. Not to mention those MSW would be sweeping under the sights of:
8 x 14" guns
8 x 12" guns
22 x 12" motars
2 x 10" guns
2 x 8" guns
11 x 6" guns
38 x 3" guns
21 x 155 mm guns
Why the Manila & Singapore CDs are modeled so lightly in the game is beyond me, when you considered historically the Japanese did all they could to avoid them, its inexcusable.
Regards
Singapore ate three divisions worth of a invasion fleet as it should. Why the Manila & Singapore CDs are modeled so lightly in the game is beyond me
Manilla based on map layout didn't work out quite so well, Bataan ends up with Corregidor CD unit (which would wipe out the fleet completely) but can't fire into the neighboring hex (Manilla). I know this has been tossed around before with various potential solutions, but I can only test/play what I am given
If the CD is not there to fire, it's not there to fire. Not much we can do about it at this point.
Thats the reason I asked if they were going down the historical path or going all out, unrestricted by rules that do not exist in the game at this point in time...
This is exactly why I didn't pile a bunch of troops into Manila. that and the dozens of pt boats - ease of bombing etc.TIMJOT wrote:Nothing personal Mr Frag, as I am sure that is a perfectly viable strategy in this current alpha build, but if that utterly nonsensical strategy results in anything less than mass sepu-ku for the IJN, then something is very, very wrong.

Well, things not going very well at this stage. Crazy losses at pearl harbour (Mog - the zeroes were all set to Escort, and 2 squadrons set to escort/port attack).
My troops stole Kendari from the surprised garrison and base force and pretty much spanked them (and 4 enemy transports were sunk in the harbour). Also IJN units landed at Davao took the base in a brilliant shock attack - although the base force and garrison (if there was one) have been pushed out but not destroyed. Will remedy that soon enough.
My troops also made progress at stealing Menado, Rabaul, and Khota Bharu, as well as unloading (but not attacking) on the northern end of Luzon, Legaspi, and taking Guam. One of my subs took a minelayer down of pearl, while Prince of Wales and Repulse have escaped I think. To date I have lost no ships (although Raver's planes at rabaul got some hits, and a few more hits on Malaya) but have sunk plenty of ravers. 5 PTs, 4 scuttled transports, 1 dd, 3 pgs, 3 subs, and hopefully some bbs (langley also copped some bomb hits, lets hope she sinks too).
