When I tried to install the game, my computer rebooted first file it tried to copy. Help!

Further attempts, further details ... I tried disabling all possible TSRs (only Task Scheduler and the volume control were active), then disabled the USB ports which weren't in use anyway, but it shuffled some of the IRQs). Got a BSOD one time, fatal exception 0D at 0028:C000B25A in VXD VMM(01) +0000A25A. I then tried copying over to HD, and the install hanged, same point as them all (I think). System is an Athlon 1GHz, 256 MB, 2 hard drives (install was to the 2nd partition of the 1st HD), DVD-ROM, CD-RW, SB Audigy, GeForce2MX, RealMagic HollywoodPlus, dial-up & ADSL modems (internal).

Did you try to instal from both CD drives ? You are the first reporting this problem. Since Matrixgames is responsible for the installer/copy protection we at Vicious Byte feel a bit lost to help you. Matrixgames will hopefully step in.

Only tried the CD-RW, the second drive (plus the HD). I'll try the DVD-ROM now, but I'll kill all possible TSRs first.

Okay, I tried with the DVD-ROM, no joy (BSOD again). I also noticed the filenames were changing, so I looked to see if ANYTHING was being written to disk. 3 files were created (in multiple attempts), all with length 0.

Right, I seem to have found the problem. I managed to start installation on my C: drive after fiddling with some things, so tried to put it in the right place, D: (my games partition). No joy. I then tried to put it on the F: drive, and it worked (the install, checking for patches before playing). This is the first partition of my second drive, and each drive contains a hidden partition, if it matters. It appears, on my system, the game will only install on the first partition of a given drive. Games which install on any drive letter, should install on ANY drive letter...

I'm happy you found the problem. I felt a bit uneasy cause I couldn't help. We at Vicious Byte only made the final installed game, not the installer nor the copy protection.

This sounds very odd. We tested the installer back and forth on various machines. Can you send me a DirectX dialog file?

Are you referring to the "Save all information" option under dxdiag? Let me know and I'll send it.

wow!

I guess, usually when the computer reboots like that, it is most likely the case that is has gotten an irrecoverable error and it crashed the OS, which in turn windows takes the option of automatically rebooting (since your probably going to do that anyways).

Umm my guess there is probably a conflict arising with hardware. Usually it is the case when the pc reboots like that. Though seeing above how they have some wierd fix for Master and Slave drives.. I wouldn't doubt that is causing your problem.
