In some of the old rules I used to play these games by, fire would spread based on the direction of wind. The time to spread from hex to hex was based on the strength of wind if any.

I did a couple of searches on the forum and can't find anything about it, so I'm assuming it doesn't?

Yes it does. You can check the wind's direction and strength in the left side of the battle module's interface, below the threat level indicator.
