Attacking Aircraft on the field

Fighters don't drop down and strafe fields, right?

I have set my bombers to 100 feet to bomb airfields and have gotten terrific results (with major ack damage) against planes sitting on the field. And maybe this is to simulate parafrag bombs. By why no impact from fighters on planes on the field?

The fighters must be set to sweep at 100 feet to strafe the airfield.

Which brings up a question I have: I you set fighters on sweep and bombers an 100 ft. and send them from the same field to attack the same target will the fighters act as escort for the bombers?

No, but they will engage the fighters if any because that is the mission of a sweep (otherwise known as fighter sweep).

Escorts are there to protect the bombers, Sweep's are there to destroy the fighters. Similar end goal, as fighters get shot down, but the priority is vastly different.

Doesn't work as well for some reason.

The bombers straffing at 100 feet do the work...and fighters turn up much less.

Have you set the altitude of the fighters to 100 feet?

Hello...

If the fighters are set to sweep and the altitude is set at 100 feet and the fighters do not encounter too many enemy fighters in the air, they may strafe the airfield. There are, as always, lots of experience, morale and other checks that have to be passed, first.

Bye...

^ ahhh...that makes sense. Not gonna drop down and strafe the field with bandits about.

Hiya Worr, Vadr here. Our paths just keep crossing :)

Yes, 100 feet. Not 1,000.

Thanks, Mike. Probably just low experience....

Heya, vadr. Why the diff call sign? Or just a man of many opinions? :)

I'm playing wolfie and hardcase now from Warbirds. :)

Oh, didn't seem very appropriate here, and what with JG2 being retired and all...

I tried to change it over on AGW, but I think it's FUBAR. Oh well.

I'm working my way through Scen 16 now. Let me kick the AI a few times and I'll hunt one of you guys up for a game.

Some Bomber types had a decent Fixed forward firing gun package as well, like B25's for example, some of them had 4 50cal's that were fixed and aimed by the piolet, which greatly inhances their strafing abailitys.

The B25J is my aircraft of choice to prepare an enemy base for invasion...i usually set them to 100 feet and they´re making a slaughterhouse of the enemy troops.

Yesterday in my current game i had an attack from Port Moresby at Lae with 95 B25J and they killed 1600+, after that raid it did fall into my hands...not much resistance there.

I bombed it for two weeks or so...every attack kills 400-1000 soldiers.[:D]

A big factor is experience. I don't usually use bombers for low attacks with exp levels below 70.

Hm....they have something around 60-70 or so...at least using this kind of aircraft gives me much better results than using B-17´s, and they did´nt suffer such extremely losses. Cant see a huge impact on aircraft based on target airfield except those fighters shoot down by the escorts, so i use port attack exclusively.[&:]
