My current opponent is suggesting that this is no longer a part of the game.
Can someone confirm that WIR 3.3
no longer encourages Shatters for Germans...when defending in
Blizzard...other than heavy losses or lack of op / ready points with which to retreat.

Mike, what I meant is that in version 3.3 units with high readiness do not shatter. But units with low readiness DO SHATTER easily. This is more realistic and challenging than before, when the reverse was true.

for Alphonse...my alert opponent

Yes, Alphonse; I agree that low readiness units should shatter easier and that high readiness units with good entrenchment should NOT shatter in 41-42 Blizzard due to special rule.

There was much rancor / discussion of it when WIR 3.3 was released and while i had understood it had been toned down...it still existed - much to my chagrin. ie. if one has rail supply level 6 and sit still throughout the blizzard; your readiness should remain relatively high. You cannot control your readiness. The game does. Hence, my annoyance that it was continued.

Due to my above perception, i was asking confirmation from the forum on this issue. I am now wondering if i should re-download WIR 3.3 to ensure i have the correct version.

I'm still new to 3.3, and was playing the AI to see what happens in the blizzard turns. After the first few weeks of rain came a blizzard turn. Two corps shattered after one round of combat each. That was the extent of the Soviet counterattack for that turn.

Needless to say, I was not impressed. Both sides, ordinarily would have had low readiness coming out of rain turns, and readiness of most of my corps would have averaged about 30%.

I may have to stick to 3.2, though I'll try 3.3 a little while longer.

in my game vs K62 i pulled back so i didn't special supply my units, and my entire line stayed at 27-30% during blizzard, including rail lines. in cities they hovered at 40-45%. I would say that this means you have to special supply each korps every turn during blizz to have a chance of not having them shatter. you gotta hope you have enough OP!

it's a real shame german shattering is so unforgiving, since it completely destroys the entire army if everything is not done exactly so. if the penalty for not keeping high readiness was retreat, perhaps even with double losses, at least you could afford to make mistakes! i don't think any korps with an average experience of 80%+ should ever shatter PERIOD regardless!
