A little research question.....

Can any of you historically savy individuals  out there refer me to a reference (or series of them) for information regarding force locations by date (by division or battalion is fine) and the rough numbers of units produced (infantry, armor, vehicles....all of it) for the nations in WW2?

Yeah, I know, it is a big requested, but I hope some of you out there can point me in the right direction!

I have found bits and pieces of information here and there, but nothing extensive and nothing in one location.

Another thought - does any one know of any table top games that have done a fair job of placing what unit was where for a particular time frame?

Thanks Guys!

So, I found Voriax's postings under http://www.matrixgames.com/default.asp? ... rumid%3D52 AFTER I posted this......that is the way it always is.

Lots of good info in there - Thanks Voriax.

If anyone knows of any others, let me know!

Got a copy to send me?? :D ;)

I am really looking for an over all number of divisions (infantry, mechanized, armor, arty) produced for each nation through out the war and the locations of these divisions for a particular date....say 1944......

Cant find anything specific about this. I have found lots of great info on TOE, OOB's, what was in a particular location for a particular battle but nothing general or broad enough for what I am looking for......

Sure, I can spend ALOT of time piecing it all together myself, but I figure I will see if anyone has done it all ready and if anyone out here knows where I might find that info!

And it doesnt have to be on line. I can even read books......if they have lots of pictures. :p

If anyone can recommend anything, please speak up!
Thanks

Your task is going to be difficult, if not impossible, due to wartime security restrictions. Not to mention outright deception!

For example, take the case of the US 23rd Headquarters, Special Troops, a unit I reasearched deeply in conjunction with the creation of MCSE... This unit was our first true deception unit and operated throughout the ETO after D-Day. Their task, and they were very, very good at it, was to imitate anything from a single unit up to and including two entire divisions! Much of what they did is still classified Top-Secret, although quite a bit has recently been declassified and the subject of a few books ("Ghosts of the ETO" being one good one) We may never have an accurate accounting of their activities during the war, and hence, never an accurate listing of unit locations.
