When i start SPWAW 8.1, after the intro, my PC crash and restart.
I got the 7.1 too into the Hard disk (Programs folder) and the 8.1 is installed at default.
My PC:
Athlon 1800, 256 ram, Ati radeon 7000

Try starting the game from the mech.exe and see if that helps.
