Only able to play in safe mode?

I just formated my hard disk and reinstalled XP.
I have noticed there are some problems including the "remote procedure control" errors when running XP, and failed to solve by updating XP and checking virus.
In addition to it, I can't play WiR and other dos-based programs in XP because after the game screen shows up several seconds, it just automatically exits and returns to desktop. The only way that I can play it is to run in safe mode, which makes me a little bit uncomfortable.
Well, of course I don't expect to solve it easily, but just mention it to see if anyone has some suggestion or same experience. By the way, I have tried manipulating the memory settings and all that kind of stuff.

What are the other DOS-Programs you can´t play? WIR will not work if your graphic-card
is unable to emulate EGA-Graphic-Standard. I know that there is a patch for VESA-Emu-
lation (needed for all BUILD-made-games like DukeNukem3D, Shadow Warrior etc.) if
you want them to play in 640x480. The new hardware isn´t very pleasant all the time,
i have sound-on-board and got grey hair to get the sounds of old games work. Wanted
nothing more than my old, simple sound-blaster back! WIR runs fine on my new machine,
but it seems to depend on your graphic board. Your are not able to play ANY DOS-game?

You try DOSBOX? Do a google on it. It seems to work for a bunch of old games and you might want to give it a shot.
Works for many of the old DOS games my family uses....

No, I am not able to play any dos games in XP. I didn't change any hardware, and the same machine worked fine under win2000. I just downloaded the new TNT2 video card drive but doesn't help either.

You are not able to play ANY Dos-Game? I read about that in the internet, but my dos-
games work fine. Sounds like a problem with the driver (i think you know that already[8|]). My last idea would be to look at your graphic-card settings. Maybe it will work
if you disable some features. Pulling down the overall-power of your card in the system-
settings ("Display"/"Enhanced") could work, too. But that is nothing new, i am afraid[:(]...
trying the Dos-box is another good idea, of course.
Good luck!

Thanks for all. Finally it is all settled down by formatting my hard driver. Sometimes formatting help a lot. [;)]
Now I can run WiR with my mouse cursor showing! This is the first time i saw a mouse cursor in WiR screen!
The only problem remaining is that when I try to change the type and number of a panzer group in editing the scenario, the memory seems to be low.

...as for the memory-problem: faced it, too. Happened (i think so) when it tryed to change
aircraft-types in HQs like STAVKA or RVGK. I switched some of the memory-values, and
now it runs fine. [&o]
Greetings.
