Txema,
We've finished the Guide. It's now with Marc Scwanebeck, intrepid Matrix trooper and art director, where he will be transforming it into a thing of beauty. So not far off. There will be a full announcement soon explaining costs etc.

I have played all the Campaign's from the Allied side. I just started my second time around and I am shocked at the depth I find in the game. I am not a big HEX wargamer and I am new to the gender. I for one can't wait till I get a strategy guide. [&o]

Are there plans to keep it updated as new features are added in future games?

No promisses at the moment. I agree that would be a good idea. But I have not given it any thought at this stage nor discussed it with Matrix.

I'm a little unclear of exactly which units to use to attack which units. Is there any info on which units are strongest versus other units?

I personnally use 2 types of information to evaluate this:
First, I look at the strength of the unit (hit the F1 key to have the strength number appear in the info box). Look at the gap in values of both units: trying to attack a strength 5 unit with a strength 1 is very hazardous, while attacking with a strength 4 unit against a 1 has better chances of success.
Second, I look at the anti-personnel and anti-armour values (look on the Stats tab after clicking on the unit). Of course, if you are attacking armour units, you will want to attack with units with strong anti-armour values. And if you are attacking "soft" units, you will want units with strong anti-personnel values.
However, since I do not micro-manage my units, I rarely have to figure this out for 2 individual units. The smallest organization I manage myself is usually a battalion, and only in very special circumstances will I take control of an individual company or platoon (for recon for example). So I tend to look at the overall picture with the F1 key and the values: does this battalion have collectively enough strength to mount an attack against this or that enemy formation?
Hope this advice helps.

Yes it does...very interesting and thanks for the info. I guess I'm still trying to let go of micro-managing and let the lower commanders do their job!

Indeed. If you are, like me, an old-time wargamer used to hexes and turns, at first HTTR is somewhat awkward. You tend to intervene too much, you intervene as soon as a unit divert from the plan you had in mind. Have some confidence in your lower commanders. It takes some getting used to, but after a while you will find a rhythm and start getting comfortable. You will also learn how your subordinates tend to act, and you will tweak your orders accordingly.
Like I said, the lowest level to which I will give direct orders myself are battalions. In fact, for more complex scenarios with lots of units, I will often manage only regiments/brigades and some heavy guns that I attach to my personal command when appropriate. I micromanage lower than battalions only in very delicate situations. On this point, HTTR is much more realistic than traditional wargames: in real life, commanders have no choice but to trust their subordinates. They can't and they don't micromanage except in very special and infrequent situations.

Grrrr....I just "lost" Tutorial #1 with a draw! It feels like driving a Cadillac with power steering and big fat tires but I won't let the Jerrys beat me like that. Interesting how the AI avoids too much direct contact and choose a more delaying tatic. I'll have to let go a bit Tzar007, taking your advice and see how it goes...
Damn Jerrys!! [:@]

booje,
If it's any comfort Tutorial 1 can be difficult to win mainly because victory depends so much on luck - ie whether the Germans are lucky enough to blow the crossings. On average they should fail one or two, but sometimes lady luck can be rough and you get to see all of them go up in smoke. So don't feel too bad. The main point here is to follow the tutorial instructions so you can learn the mechanics. Tut #1 is designed to teach the mechanics of giving orders to individual units - ie for micro-managing. Don't spend too much time redoing it. Move on to Tut #2 where the emphasis is on macro-management and this is where HTTR really shines. Have fun.[:)]

Ahh excellent Arjuna, will do! I did better the first time I ran through the first tutorial and I wondered what I was doing to make the outcome different.
