Resolution Box on start up

Is there anyway to avoid having to go through the resolution dialog box when starting HTTR? Everytime I play I have to choose the resolution.

Seems like I remember Red Devils had separate .exe files for different resolutions.

Thanks

You can add a command parameter to your game shortcut see page 51 of the manual.

That worked! Although the instructions on pg 51 look like they might be carried over from the original game as they refer to the "Airborne Assault" folder and the"multiple shortcuts".

Thanks again, at least since you guys were kind enough to include a printed manual I could bother to read it!

OK, I must be dense because I can't get anything close to following the instructions in the manual. There is no shortcut in my programs folder. [:(] And the desktop shortcut targets a "start.exe" file not anything with a resolution [:(]

edit: ok I found the shortcut (it was hiding in the "all users" folder, blasted XP...) but it targets "F:\Program Files\Matrix Games\Highway to the Reich\HTTR.exe" and there's nothing showing resolution there that I can find [:(])

MadScot are you trying to bypass the screen asking for resolution at startup?

MadScot,

You want to change the target to read like this:
"F:\Program Files\Matrix Games\Highway to the Reich\HTTR.exe" -resolution debug

This way when you use that shortcut to launch the game, it will use your desktop resolution.

Erk, slight correction. Something about the res setting (or is it the debug thing?) must *really* soak up the ol' processing capability - never, ever, seen the game so slow. Went back to the 1280 res and it all zipped along quite happily (my first fear was the patch had done it).

Well, I guess that's one more "justification" for a new PC [;)]

Interesting. Thanks for that, I'll bear that in mind - it might explain something I've been seeing here as well. Guess it's better to use a fixed resolution - you could change the command target to:

"<install directory>/HTTR.exe" -resolution 1024x768

substituting your preferred resolution of course. Let me know if that runs a bit faster for you.

Much better. Running at 1400*1050 and even with internet still connected and hence more background tasks it was significantly faster than the 'debug' version.

Thanks again. Now I'll have to find something else to complain about [;)]

Outstanding. That's very useful to know, I'll post it in the public forum so others can benefit.

In the laptop I'm using now I can't go below 1400*1050 and I had to use the "target" trick. I say so because maybe some computer which cannot run at the default resolutions have problems starting, some advice should be given to customers to avoid any complain ;)

Oddly, my laptop usually moans like anything about non-native res games, but doesn't gripe about HTTR, whatever res I pick. Maybe it likes the game too?

All LCD/TFT screens have a default resolution. If you try and run in any other resolution you invariably get problems or reduced performance. So best to stick with the default for these monitors. No such probs with CRT monitors.
