We have Lost One of our Own

David Heath just called me and advised me of a notice that I want to pass on to you. Many of you remember Byron Inglesh. Old Byron gamed for many years and was a staunch supporter of SPWAW and the Raiders.

Old Byron never pulled punches. He spoke his mind. We did not always agree but I respected him. He was my friend.

The following comes from the Pacific War forum. Let's remember our friend fondly.

You are so right Wild Bill.

Byron was the first guy to really help me when I first joined the SPWAW forum nearly four years ago. He fixed a map problem and he was one of the testers on the campaign Guadalcanal 1942. He was a good campaigner, SPWAW gamer, and will be missed.

ARGH, Holy Crap. This is terrible, I can't believe I missed this. He helped me out alot when I first started, we had great times and conversations behind the scenes. He will be missed by me deeply.[:(][:(][:(]

As I posted in a duplicate thread on the subject, I knew BING only marginally, but I’ve always heard others referring to him as a good fellow, valuable player, and with a great knowledge of the game.

Maybe few remember, but he was also author of a masterpiece of “Spwaw teaching”: the “Artillery Tutorial”.
I’ve “studied” the why and how of artillery in Spwaw on his tutorial, and all the secrets got disclosed after that, for me.
You can still find the tutorial text on the manual, from page 84 to page 88; I suggest all to give it a read again: you’ll find everything you need to know on artillery, there! (and we always find out to have something that we didn’t remember; haven’t we?)
I’ve lobbied to have all the tutorials back in Spwaw 8.2, and I’m now even happier to have done it.

KUNEL, I think it would be a good idea if we could edit the intro text of this tutorial scenario, by adding a short note from you on BING. Maybe we could add the Obituary note, that has been posted on the relevant Pacific War thread: what do you think?

Resisti's Idea for an inclusion of a dedication for Byron is the right thing to do.

I didn't know Byron, but having read about him in the threads from you all, it is obvious he was a gentelman who touched many here.

We all should hold a respectful place for him in our hearts!

Thank you Byron and Godspeed!

Most definitely, Resisti! Please do that and send me the copy for archiving. He deserves that and far more.

You probably won't be able to do that when I pass on to the other side...too many scenarios [X(]

But no worries, Mate. I plan to be around for at least 20 more...that would make me 87 and give me some time to do a few more enterprises in this life! [;)]

Bing helped me out by editing a campaign scenario for me and we exchanged a few e-mails. I didn't know him well at all, but he seemed like a good person and it always sucks to lose one of those. May you be in a better place, Byron.[:(][:(][:(]

Sorry I'm late, just heard the news...[:(]

Goodbye Bing. Although I barely knew you I enjoyed the moments we chatted here. I hadn't heard much from you over the last year but I thought about you many times. I still chuckle over some of the posts you made in reply to my lame attempts in SPWAW.
