Think twice ...

...before posting once. Reading all of the vitriol that has been on this forum in the last few weeks has been a painful experience. I have seen many of my closest associates being maligned with hurtful remarks and I imagine that many out there are becoming discouraged by the tone of the forum lately.

My friend Bryan Melvin is no longer venerated for his untiring dedication to the Raiders and the Arsenal and for being a huge contributor to the mega campaigns or his monumental Stalingrad campaign. He is now being excoriated for leading a team of volunteers in redoing the OOBs and screwing them up and ruining the game like he did it deliberately.

My friend Harry Zahn is no longer being praised for his untiring dedication to making SPWW maps so profusely filled with anything a scenario designer ever desired or for his willingness to help players understand the intricacies of Fred Chlanda's programs. He is being crucified for making test battles about OOB's.

Glen Higginbotham is no longer remembered for the act of taking on the monumental task of replacing Gmenfan but is being mercilessly slammed for learning on the job.

It is so sad to see community members react with anger instead of understanding, intolerance instead of patience, cruelty instead of compassion, criticism instead of encouragement.

I challenge anyone who is criticizing these and other fine community members to try walking in their shoes. These men have practically dedicated their lives to this game and this community and all of us have reaped the benefits.

We tried that.

It didn´t work.

Damn, I don't know if I represent the sentiment of the average joe at this forum, but I'm starting to resent Rune Iverson (Sven). I think that SPWAW is awesome, and Matrix Games courageously pushes for developer-user community integration in an industry that doesn't even begin to consider it an option. There were always arguments about things here, but they were always about the game. Now, all I see now is Sven jumping in with enough negativity to, finally, break my positive vibe. That last post of your Sven, really sucks... and in the context of the last 50, or so, posts of yours upsets me greatly. You really are getting me down, I don't know what people are thinking, but this is my sincere two cents. Please quit with the disenfranchised high-schooler act... I want to say more offensive things, but that's just cause I'm a bit too into this game.

I´m not Sven. Never was, never will be.

I agreed with the powers that be that I would shut my gob on these issues here untill V.8.2 was released, but apperently the powers that be was unable to get their ducks in line. I therefore consider myself free to act within the constraints of my own conscience again.

Whoah, I guess iverson-sven is confusing me. I apologize profusely where ever you may currently be Sven. Man, I hate throwing out feelings only to screw some critical fact up... There it is though... that's what I see, and how I feel about it. I'm done on this whole thing. I know that participation tends to stretch bad threads out, so I promise not to participate in the lameness anymore.

Tomo (BTW, I'm officially calling myself a posting fanatic these last several days... it's out of control, and I'm gonna try to moderate some...)

Nah, it´s allright. I will admit that some of my posts has been rather terse. But then, so were the ones I was replying to.

I don't think anyone would describe me as mean spirited in my posting. I don't think I've ever "ripped anyone a new one." So I think I can fairly say that people need to get thicker skins around here. I've rarely seen anything that was WAY out of line. If someone posts in the heat of the moment, there is always the edit button to go back and tone down your words.

And, for the guys that kept making this game great, it doesn't give them free license to ruin it when they go too far. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

The only thing that gets me worked up is this talk of changing the point value of units to reflect the "rarity" factor (ala H2H). It's so clearly mixing apples and oranges to do so, that I think someone's not thinking straight. Had to throw that in there. hehe

Ditto.
