What a surprise. Allies have started attacks from Dimapur to Tientsin. And THE plane is P-47N. Japanese imperial army is searching a shop where to purchase a few hundreds of those.

Quite a plane for a single engine fighter. Flies combat missios across whole China. [:'(]
I don't know ( and don't care ) if it's realistic. The whole word in case of PacWar is useless. I was quite a surprised. N designation is unknown to me. A late war long range wariant?

Yes it is. The P-47N was the last production variant, 1816 planes built predominantly for the use in the PTO. Essentially a P-47M with stronger and bigger wings - and fuel tanks in them. See article.

It looks entirely legit to me -- same range as the P-51D variant of the Mustang, and the P-61 Black Widow. (Note that you get 50% extra range against stationary targets--you can hit up to twelve hexes away.) Personally, I would prefer to build Mustangs: they're cheaper, so you get more output per factory.

But unlike a P51, or lightening or P61, you can give Tbolts to Commonwealth and Brit units . Gives serious oomph in Burma/China. Assumes you are not using arcane house rule about only brit planes in brit units - after all and perversely, RAF flew Mustang Bs in Europe , and think aussies used P-47s. Anyway in my game with LST, all anzac/brits are flying P47D (supplied by aussie factores as well as one big us one) waiting for the N to appear and terrify LST...

srawbuk, you won't need P-47Ns - your P-38Js, Corsairs and Helllcats are scary enough already - look at the loss ratios [X(].

The RAF re-equipped their Hurricane ground attack squadrons in India/Burma with the P-47D in early 1944. The Australians never operated the P-47 though many served on the type in RAF squadrons. The Royal Australian Airforce used a combination of Spitfires and P-40s as their fighter types in the Pacific. The RAAF used the P51D/K post war and licence built them as the Commonwealth Aircraft Factory CA-17/18.

The P-47N was Republic's answer to the P-51's range edge over the P-47D. Republic added a extra section of wing on each side of the fuselage (for fuel) and clipped the tips. With extra tanks on the wings and fuselage centerline she'd stay aloft for 12 hours! It was used only in the Pacific.

The P-47M was a hotrod version of the D version, and she was a real screamer (3500 HP on war emergency!) faster than the P-51! But, only the 56th FG got them and they had teething problems with their ignition harnesses cutting out at high altitude. They came too late to show any impact.
