8.2 Update Submitted to Matrix

Yesterday, the 8.2 OOBs were sent up the line, so the OOB team has completed its job. The 8.2 patch will be more than just the new OOBs, but I'll leave that for now. I just wanted to thank everyone on the team for their time and efforts.

More information will soon be forthcoming.

Personally, I want to thank David Heath for his dedication to the continuing development of SPWaW, and Bryan Melvin for his leadership and patience with this international group of team members and contributors.

I also want to thank the SPWaW community for your comments and suggestions. This was indeed a community project, and all of you played a part in this. I'm truly awed by the expertise that is so amply demonstrated by this family of gamers. [&o]

Is this going to be it?

They are going to be wrong...no way around it.

Its time to tell people its over and if they want changes to do it themselves.
Matrix wastes too much time on a game they make nothing off of

One question. Will i have to start all my long campaigns over again. Or will this new patch infiltrate into what i have already started.

What do you mean by wrong?

And the work that was done, hundreds of hours of work, was done by volunteers.

Your campaigns will continue. [:)] Simply plug in the new patch and play. You may find that you have a few more units to upgrade to.

FJ, don't pass judgement until you see the results.

It is possible Fallschirmjager was merely expressing what might not be so rare an apprehension that no matter how hard the hard working voluteers work, it might yet still fail to prevent people from complaining.

This has been sort of a common problem with Steel Panthers since I began playing the game. There has never been a moment I can recall, when someone has relented from fiddling with the data "in some way".

It is just a rumour, but I saw a memo about it being required that you sign up for a super secret forum where you could bitch about just about anything, including the OOBs :)

Problem is I lost the darned memo (frigging post it notes never stay stuck on my monitor dang it).

The OOB's will never be 100% correct

No game has ever had 100% correct OOB's

The sooner we accept this, the sooner we can move on to the next level of gaming which will be Combat Leader.

Its time to put SpWaW out to pasture

(Yes, that's true--KG)

The sooner we accept this, the sooner we can move on to the next level of gaming which will be Combat Leader.
(We have a forum that deals with CL--feel free to post in that forum--KG)

Its time to put SpWaW out to pasture
(Quite a few gamers and scenario designers may take issue with this point--KG)

Obviously most people disagree!! You can continue to wait for CL if you want, the rest of us will continue with this greatest of games! To say that SPWAW should be put out to pasture is, in my opinion, nonsensical! What game here evokes the most posts and activity on the Matrix Board?

What game continues to create some of the best debates and conversations, while continuing to evolve and feed the passions of the gamers and developers. What game continues to create some of the best scenarios and campaigns. What game continues to create those amazing Mega campaigns!

You all know the answer to that! SPWAW is very much alive and thriving because 99% of us see that this old girl has plenty of life left in her. In fact there are people like Matt R who's thread: "Additions to Infantry Icons" in this section, continue to show just how much other people here want to add more to the game.

I know I speak for many when I say that SPWAW will remain vibrant and important as a wargamming tradition. It will take a long time for anything to ever supplant it for it's playability and longevity! Even when that day does come, there will always be thousands of grognards that will have a copy of SPWAW on their computer!

[&o][&o][&o][&o] To the greatest of them all!!
Steel Panthers World At War!

OK, John breathe...deep breaths now... OK, I've calmed down now. Sorry FJ, I know your a Matrix Vet and I respect your opinion greatly on many of the posts that I have read over the years with your contributions to them, but as Bugs Bunny so eloquently put it,"Them's Fightin' Woids"

With all due respect FJ...if that is how you feel about SPWAW...then what does it matter to you if there are OoB revisions? [&:]

Considering how I've bought all 4 MC's (as well I'm sure allot of other people), you can hardly say that Matrix makes nothing off of the game. And if it really was a losing proposition I seriously doubt they would have devoted this much time into it.

Hell, if the update isn't an improvement, just continue to use an older version. The work put into these updates should be congratulated, not criticized. To general criticism of steel panthers, well, if you don't like it then you don't have to use it. Many of us love the game and continue to anticipate, scrutinize, and devour new developments because the game has that much charm.
