Yea, you could start host mods. DamoclesX has Babylon 5 mod which takes 250 MB space and that's why is off-line. Put that thing to on-line and that would be good start

Hey David, what games did your crew start off modding in? Forgive me if Im a bit skeptical but I for one have been burned more then a few times by publisher's promises for modding support. A little background on your modding experience would allay those fears (and give me some mods to hunt down

)

Well I have no modding under my belt. My statement was more to state that we do not plan to hinder any modder on our end in the code. Companies in the past have tried to put a stop on the modders. Most of Matrix Games art team is made up of a lot of Close Combat Modders, we developed Steel Panthers into Steel Panthers World at War so we can saftely say its in our blood. I am sure Marc can give you some better examples.

Far more important in allaying those fears, I suspect, is the fact that the modelling tool is already available at
http://www.starshatter.com.
From the developers;
Starshatter is a space-sim modder's dream platform. Because Starshatter was designed from the ground up to support so many different play styles - from space fighter combat to airborne strikes to starship battles to fleet tactical encounters - you can use it to create mods for just about any popular science fiction universe you can think of. Creating a new mod can be as simple as importing some new ship models, editing a few text files that define ship and mission parameters, and running the game. Starshatter includes a "Custom Mission" selection screen that allows the end user to play any mod that is installed in the game directory.
Starshatter is still in development. At the moment, mod support is limited to creating new ship designs, new weapons effects, and new custom missions. When the game is complete, you will be able to create Total Conversion packages that replace the GUI art, fonts, HUD, and campaign data with custom content.
There is a different relationship between Matrix and their developers, and their customers than you tend to see with "bigger" (no offense) publishers. Troll through the boards here and you'll see the developers of
all (well, nearly all) of the games talking and listening to their customers - Matrix get sales on reputation, not flashy boxes on store shelves. They need, and value, the repeat business, and the level of support reflects that.
Also, from a more mercenary point of view, Starshatter is pretty much an "indie" game and it's attraction is based around gameplay rather than a killer new graphics engine that could be licensed out, or an expense movie/TV license. It's in the devs interests to support modders as what seems to be an excellent package will have even more appeal to potential buyers if mods for their favourite TV shows and movies are available.
