Any alternative solutions for this?

Just seeing if I missed something here. Started a new long campaign. I am on battle 2 and have been using "modified" maps. I save, load in the editor, and make a larger map. (100-120hex height) I then deploy my forces, and click auto deploy for the AI. I noticed in the first battle they had no forces south of the first "screen" on the minimap (IE, below what would have been the bottom of the original "large" map) I did a little investigating for this battle, and sure enough, using auto deploy, they will *not* deploy south of that imaginary line. (occasionaly an arty piece or 2 gets thrown down there, but that is it.) Is there any way to trick the AI into deploying in this new ground? Don't want to deploy them myself, but if that is the only way, so be it. (boo hoo for me, right? :) Just don't want any knowledge of their force If I can avoid it.) I find the extra room really adds more to the battles for me. (especially with larger forces. A little room to manuever.) Thanks for any feedback, even if it is just to say TS, it can't be done, other than by your own hand.

I haven't played with the editor too much, but here's a question. When you make the map larger, do you add deployment flags on the AI side of the map? If not, that would be why they don't deploy into the new areas.

Yep, deployment flags I tried both auto creation and manually extending them to the bottom of the map. Even tried placing all the objectives on the bottom where they won't deploy too, but in every instance, nothing. Seems to be the same even in generated battles, so I am starting to think there isn't an "easy" way around this, the only way being manual deployment. :(

I routinely do this kind of editing, and never noticed this problem, however, if you like, send me your save next time, I will deploy your forces for you!!

Well, I made a rather interesting discovery (or it was just ultra repetitive luck, as mine tends to include a little rain cloud following me about. :) ) I uninstalled and reinstalled wondering if I somehow mucked up the works. Go into the editor, same thing. Armies not deploying south of the initial large map. (Using mapsizes from 100x100-140x100. Once on the 140 height they deployed a platoon at the very bottom using auto). So, I try 160x100. VIOLA! Armies deployed using the entire map. Now this wasn't 1 or 2 tries they did not deploy on 100-140 height. This is cumulative about 40-50 attempts in the editor/quick battle just buying, random map, deploy. Repeat. I was going to stay away from the bigger sizes, as it seems that the larger the map, the sparser terrain features get, but after some playing, it seems like my few tries were worse than the average. Still get a lot of "open" centers, but I can just plop a few small forrests and or hills if I wish. I am doubly happy in that I got it working at all, plus the 160+ maps are even more to my liking. (like having a big sandbox to play in) So I suppose that it is some sort of glitch with AI routines on those 3 sizes? Oh well, We could still be limited to "Large". [:D]

Guess I can use this thread for my next question: I saw in the preferences menu that you can set formations from "0-400". I tried 200 for each side, but 100 was still the cap. Would say 100/200 in the buy screen, but could not buy anything more. I imagine this has been gone over long before. No biggie in any case. AI sometimes hits the cap when buying, but I can always tweak the OOB to squeaze a few more units in.
