Questions / Suggestions and Observations

Just downloaded CotD and been having a lot of fun playing it.
A lot like Adanac's earlier American Civil War game.
Still i have a few questions (sorry if i've missed these in the posts or rules some where):

-why does the unit name sometimes turn red?
-in the 1805 Ulm and Danube campaign i can't get the russian Buxhowden to move?
-playing in full fog of war, enemy units sometimes get a red box with a number below thier effectives box, any ideas on this?

a few observations i made:

-some coalition units are not showing up on the small map, even when i play that side
-on the map there some broken areas and some clear but there seems no corelation with map graphics, clear graphic areas being both broken and clear and wooded graphic areas being both clear and broken in different parts. so does it matter? does broken/clear affect movement or combat?

and some suggestions for next patch:

-could the Austrian leaders name be in a different colour? (white on light grey is hard to see)
-the use of the ESC key to exit be documented
-possible to see values of all enemy units at games end?

and is there going to be TCP/IP play included soon?

only played the first scenario as both sides so far so going to try the rest now and see what esle i can find out!

I am about as far as you are, so no definite answers.

I think the turning red of units means they are out of supply.

I noticed the discrepancies between the map and the text to, all I got was "broken" (mostly) and some "clear". This was on the Ulm map, where it looks like there is a lot of wood, and even some mountains.

I agree on the <esc> function, and an added button for exiing would be nice. As would be the option to exit to the scenario selection screen, instead of quitting altogether.

Finally some hints on play would be appreciated. The amnual is good on how to do things, but rather short on what to do. Starting Ulm as French I ran into some problems/questions that should not have occured. I understand that I have to supply the troops, I understand the system, but do I need to send out wagons at onc? Do I have to make units independent? Do I have to sent supplies to cities? It is just trial and error this way (and my soldiers went hungry).

How do you calculate how much supply a unit (non-supply unit) consumes?

Red text means the unit is out of supply.

Buxhowden can take awhile due to messenger delays, especially if you don't give orders before executing a single turn.

"enemy units sometimes get a red box with a number below thier effectives box"
This is on enemy units? I'm not sure I understand this one.

As for the map, there are some mistakes where the internal data doesn't line up with the actual terrain. All roads were checked over and over and they do line up. Some of the terrain doesn't.

I have no plans to add tcp/ip. I did have tcp/ip instead of pbem in the 1806 game but pbem was far more in demand. Putting both in is a lot of extra work so I chose to stay with just the pbem.

When starting its a good idea to leave supply to the AI with your only input being the location of your Centre of Operations and hospital.

Supply consumption is basically adding up the strength of the division including stragglers and wounded.

Strength 1-3 requires 1 supply per day
4-8 requires 2 supply points per day
9-15 requires 3 supply
16+ requires 4

This is only a rough guide since other factors enter into it. The biggest being attrition of the supplies during movement.
