Hey there,
I recently got a new computer at work and unfortunately, it has windows NT on it. Is there a way to get spwaw to work on it? Also, I have not been able to contact my former opponents due to trouble with the switch over. So please either email me or be patient with me while I get something worked out.

If you have an answer to the NT problem, please email me direct at
kodell@syneticsinc.com

thanks,
Kevin

spwaw works fine with win2k, which uses the NT kernel. Could it be drivers related?

I had Windows 2000 on my old system and it worked great. But When I got the new system, they had to change it to NT because of the other software requirements. (Or so I was told). SO now I am basically screwed until I can find away around this. I was told that if I install Direct x 3, that this might work. But I have been unable to find that program version. I think 8 is the newest and it still does not support NT

I don't think there is any reason that NT won't work; I've been using NT4.0 SP4/5 & 6 with SPWAW since the ver 1 days. No problems. It must just be a video or soundcard driver that isn't NT, by accident it works for other apps.

I am not sure.
When I try running it, I get the intro video, and then when I hit the space bar, I get a direct draw error and it boots me back out to windows. I really suspect the Direct draw is the culprit, but form what I understand, version 3 is the only one that works in Windows NT. Does any one know where I can find a site to down load this version?

Make sure you are using SP6. MOst who have had success are using it. W2k works MUCH better.

Is this a machine at work or something becouse the only time I would use NT is if I was running a private network or something and even then I would still not use it.

If this is a home system I would segest upgradeing to something better becouse Windows NT was never mint as a operating system for a gaming computer, it was designed to run networks.

unfortunatly its at work. I have spwaw at home, but it was nice having it here at work because I could take my email turns during lunch and after work. I just loaded sp6a and reinstalled spwaw and i still get the direct draw error. If only I could find direct x 3.0 and try that.

You could try using DxDiag (it may be
on your system, or downnload it from Micro$oft). This might give you some
indications as to your problem...

DxDiag comes with win2000, not to sure
about NT.

Having had a look at M$ site, it seems that
DxDiag should be present, as SP6 for NT4 includes DirectX 3, but

There seems to be no way to seperatly download Direct X for NT......

So give DxDiag a go......

Don't about NT but my win98se screwed up badly after some DX8 (directdraw and directsound) got corrupted or something else that don't work. I unistalled Dx8 and set Dx7a to machine. Now game works again perfectly, but windows is little beyond the 'egde' Image I have found new errors and have fun when seeing it confused, as it propably thinks DX8 is still in the machine. But I'll have to install Win agin to get it to work...someday...

Just curious. Do you have admin right on your work machine? I assumed that you do since you able to load the game, but wants to make sure since admin right are needed to register some dll within windows

In Windows 98 & above, there is a tool called sfc.exe, system files check. Just run it from the start menu run box. It will check for corrupt/changed system files and prompt you to reinstall or ignore any that are not default. This can be a way to recover from overwritten dlls, etc.

OK, maybe just a bit faded.

Gizmo,

Try reading this: link on NT & Direct X. The latest DirectX stuff is in SP6a for NT here

I still say that the problem is in your soundcard or video NT driver which is not Directx compatible. I'm sure that it's the latest thing for win98/ME, but that's not good enough for NT.

well, now I do suspect the video card. It is an Elsa Gloria II. I guess this is suppose to be a pretty hot video card. We do a lot of 3-D modeling here at work so we got pretty awesome computers. Except for having to run NT.
I guess I will just have to play at home until I can talk IS into installing win2k back on this machine.
