Frank,

Ive just finished reading A brief history of the RFC by Ralph barker.

It has bought to light how very imprtant air recon was during WW1.

In fact from 1916 onwards it was essential. Also strategic bombing also played a big role for the Allied side. Though not for the axis (except duirng 1918). The bobmbing of troop trains and strafe of forward lines during the german oofensive in 1918 slowed them down considerably.

So will Air untis in this game make a difference? From Recon through to holding up attacks?

Air plays a very minor role in the game. Air is allocated to various theatres and attrition takes place between opposing air. Its possible to raise the tech level of your airforce and that helps during combat. After combat, surviving air allow a number of enemy front hexes to be checked out (normally full fog is imposed). Air also provide a drm for artillery.

Sounds good Frank.

The Air was a very important way to spot for artillery. Glas to see these things are being implemented. The other way was by observation balloon.
