I am hearing (and reading) nothing but good reports coming from this game and am thinking of getting it but have a few questions.
1. Is this game set at Battalion level?
2. Can you PBEM?
3. If yes to #2 then how is it done considering that it is played in real time?
Thanks in advance.

yes, Bn's being the main fighting *unit*. Companys being the lowest?
yes
game speed is set by both players, the lowest (slow, normal, fast, fastest) taking priority.

Yes, the game is all goodness.
You can command at the company, battalion, brigade, and/or division level. The choice is yours.
There is no PBEM only direct TCP.
I hope that helps.

Raver,
I picked this up a couple of weeks ago and being a UV fan thought I may be able to describe whether it will be to your taste or not.
The main points in this game are strategy, tactics and time. Micromanagement is available to a degree but goes against the design of the game. Unlike UV your subordinate AI commanders know what they are doing and tend to do it well, even when faced with the unexpected / unplanned for. I would like to fire all current UV commanders and replace them with these.
Objectives are your goal and points can be scored for how long an objective was held as well as whether held at game end. Another improvement over UV.
Time is well used. Changing plans in the middle of an attack has serious consequences with units attached to an HQ that receives new plans left in the lurch for 30 mins plus whilst new orders are formulated.
I have only one criticism of this game, there is no Grand Campaign. Instead you get 3 entirely seperate Campaigns based around Arnhem, Eindhoven and Neijmegen. There are many smaller scenarios and some enormous scenarios. The scenario design is excellent. There is variable reinforcement and supply for each scenario to alter difficulty levels.
The only other potential downside is taste. A lot is done for you in this game and done very well. At times it can feel like the game is playing itself to a degree. The way it does so is exceptionally well done. You can play it with all orders done at startup with only minor tweeks as the situation develops. Or you can go in and give every individual unit specific orders. They loose the benefit of AI command then and will only change orders if you do it for them.
Unfortunately no PBEM but there are plenty of opportunities to wipe Luskan around the polders if you can TCP.

raverdave,
I've also noticed quite a few newcomers here from Australia so you shouldn't find it too hard to locate opponents in your timezone. You can save and continue online games with ease so it's not hard to play a short session, save, and then pick up where you left off the next day or whenever.
You might want to check out the EricGuitarJames vs Yakstock AAR of the Mook Right Hook scenario in the AARs forum - this gives you a good idea of how online play works in practice.

raverdave,
With Patch 1 we now provide connectivity to the Battle HQ game server. You just log in to Battle HQ and go to the HTTR lobby to set up or join a game.
