Quick Question

Haven't bought the game yet - 2 quick questions please...

1 - how detailed is air support? Is it represented by general inderdiction orders or are there airframe and numbers represented such as an air strike involving a dozen Ju87's??

2 - is there any way to edit a 'saved game'?

My reason for asking is that I am looking for a ground based game that I can combine with my IL-2 Lan parties. I imagine playting a game like HTTR and when an air strike occurs - save the game - reproduce the strike in a co-op IL2 mission - then edit the results of that back into HTTR. You get the idea huh? Is it doable?

Any other advice using other games to accomplish this (other then 'get a life!')

Thanks.

The answer to 1) is not very detailed. Airstrikes are very abstracted.

I'm not sure about the answer to 2) but suspect that editing saved games isn't too much of a problem. I haven't done it but perhaps folks who use the scenario editor can comment?

I think it would be a big pain in the butt for you to do. Airstrikes are represented only as "Airstrike", not much more in the way of detail. It works well for the game, but probably not good for your idea.

Maybe it would be easier to use HOI to do this? At least that way you would have a better idea of the planes are involved. Or, maybe do the VEF (Virtual Eastern Front) missions that are hosted on Hyperlobby....better yet, create your own version of VEF specially tailored for the LAN party. Uncommon Valor might also work or maybe Close Clombat 4/5?

PS- Are your LAN parties with strangers or a group of buddies?

In HttR, when an airstrike is available, the player orders an airstrike on a location and some minutes later, the airstrike is resolved.
AFAIK every airstrike consist of a fixed amount of "explosives" and only those explosives are modelled. No AAA shooting back, no airlosses, no different types and numbers of planes. All is handled very abstracted.
So if you are looking for a groundbased game to combine IL-2 with... No, HttR is not the game you will be looking for. However it's still a brilliant game and a must buy[:)]

Airstrikes are very abstract in HTTR. Basically, you are advised when an airstrike is available (meaning air planes are currently flying in your area), you pinpoint on the map what target you want them to attack, they attack, shed their bombs, go back to base and that's it. You have no idea about the number of planes or the strength of the attack. Depending on the scenario, you may have a couple of airstrikes available during a 24 hour period. If you don't use them when they become available, you lose them after 30 minutes or so since they go somewhere else.

I don't think stopping the game to jump into IL-2 would add any excitement or value to HTTR or IL-2. It would have no relationship whatsoever (at least I don't see it).

That does not mean you should not buy HTTR [:)] You definetely should if you are interested in realistic operational wargaming [:)]

You can edit scenarios, but not saved games.
