Bombarding - Friendlies in the way, but there are no friendlies in the way!

Yesterday I started on the Arnhem historical campaign and a very annoying thing happened. I could not bombard German forces that were located on top of or next to the allied crosses (that mark the end of a unit). Everywhere that there were allied crosses the arty told me "friendlies in the way" and since I lost a lot of units there were a lot of safe-haves for the Germans.
Am I the first one to have this?

The_MadMan,
do you have a save game that shows this behaviour? If so, please zip it up and email it to
support [at] panthergames [dot] com
and we'll see if we can reproduce the problem.
Thanks

I have this problem sometimes too! But rarely.
Someitmes I can't bombard with a battery but with other one works, or try when sometime has passed and it works. Strange thing, next time will save the game so ylou can check it out.

Very interesting. It shows a clear respect for the gun unit's dearly departed comrades.
If I get a chance later today, I'll load up the latest beta and try to bombard a friendly dead unit marker with a save game I have lying around from my last testing scenario.

I have tried to reproduce the problem as you described it with the current beta patch.
I am sorry, but I could not reproduce it.
As you can see, my arty is busy pounding an Allied unit death marker.
Well, forward any information you have on it to Panther. Save games are the best for tracking these things down.

Not yet I'm afraid. I've sent the savegame on to Paul, since it requires debugging skillz which I do not have (being not a coder), I dare say he will let me know if it's still a problem.
Cheers

I just received a reply by mail:
I know what is causing it, we will have to discuss it amongst the team
to see if we can improve the code. The problem is that the check we do
for friendlies being in the way is a bit crude and it is picking up one
of the nearby allied units, even though it looks like it should be well
out of the way.
We'll see what we can do!
