About commander ratings (on the Cmdr tab for each unit):

Up to now, I haven't paid that much attention to this info, but as I master more and more this great game, this is an area I am starting to look at more seriously. So far, I have been using my formations indifferently of their commander's ratings, but perhaps I could do better if I assign my best commanders' formations to critical tasks. So a couple of questions for you guys:

A) Are you paying attention to your commanders' ratings in planning attacks, defenses and so on?

B) If yes, have you found this is making a difference?

C) For Panther reps on this board: are the ratings coded in such a way that they will ALWAYS affect an order's results, or it just increases the probability of success (or failure) of orders?

D) Am I right to guess that only commanders of battalion level and up can really make a difference (not the commanders of all individual units)?

Myself, I haven't paid too much attention to these. In general, I find that you don't often have a wide array of forces to choose from for a particular job. So, I just give the orders.

When I do have a number of HQs I could choose from, then I will only give these a passing glance, but I won't agonize over the selections.

In my opinion, the most important element for victory is good planning and follow up. I suppose the perfectionist could improve upon the execution of the plan by handpicking officers and forces. However, one could argue if that is what it takes to just scrape by to victory, then you needed a better plan to begin with.

Well, I think it's usefull for forming task groups (or kampfgruppes, call them as you want).

For example if I want to form an offensive formation from various units I will try to get a good agressive and with high leadership and judgement commander. For holding unimportant positions of the battlefield you can use less experience ones. But as MarkShot said, we don't have a big array to chose (more with the german side!). But is good to play attention to these things. I don't know the exact effect on the game but in reality this was a very important thing!

One of the things that made the difference in german army was the quality of it's comanders and officers, and even more important the quality of their NCO! (this later value should be taken into account in the overall unit stats). So I suppose the effect in the game is great enought to take into account.

Based on probability. Even the best commanders have their off day. [;)]

D) Am I right to guess that only commanders of battalion level and up can really make a difference (not the commanders of all individual units)?
All units receive orders so their leader values all count.

Hello everybody,

this a very interesting topic. [:)]

Can somebody from Panther or Matrix explain, how leadership at all levels are simulated?

What would be cool is, if leadership modifiers cumulate, e.g. you have a bad battalion CO (-2), but a good company CO (+1). So, when it comes to calculate the overall modifier, you have only a -1 modifier.

This would be close to reality, where a good company CO can patch up poor leadership of his superior. [:)]

Like in reality. [:D] I have seen it happen, I have seen enough of it ...

Regards,

Panzermann

P.S. Oops [X(], I am not a virgin anymore [:D]
