I have encountered problems once I have installed to directories other than the default.
ie. I put the game in program files... etc (and patched there too) but cannot play the game there, after choosing the game start options I get a file not found error

I think the first thing you should do is uninstall the game, including the directory folder, and try the default setting... however, on my laptop, I put it onto my D drive without a problem....also, if you are using a desktop shortcut to try accessing the game, make certain it is going to the right path, check the "start in" box in the shortcut properties to make certain that the location string is correct, as it may not include that you put the game into your program files...hope this helps..

Belphegor same here. The only way I could get the game to run properly was to leave the default install directory alone.

Thanks J P
Good advice, if I install to default everything works fine, problem is... I don't like the default.
1. There is already a Matrix Games folder in the Program Files directory and I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to add this game to that folder apart from the fact that the game won't run there.
2. Even if there wasn't a folder already there, I hate flat directory structures.... no programs go anywhere but in program files. My own little obsession I guess.
I don't think that I should be restricted on program placement, especially when I can't place it in the most common location. [:'(]

Well you shouldn't be restricted, for as I said, I put it on my D drive without a problem...if the path is correct then I'm at a lose for a solution...[&:].....perhaps one last thing you can try is uninstall the game and then run Norton Win Doctor or simply use the Windows error scan program to clean up your registry...then reinstall and see if it works....

This was an error a few of us saw when the game was released. I, like you, now have two Matrix Games directories on my drive. I was hoping it would have been corrected with the patch (but maybe it's too late by the time you patch it!?!).

Ooops, yes sorry JPF I didn't notice you mentioned you had installed it on a D drive.
I certainly could try that, a quick question... is it off the root of D, and/or does the path have any spaces
(still trying to figure out why)
I am going to try one more thing. And thanks Everyone for the responses.

What file is it saying it can't find when installed to a non-default directory?

Both times I get as far as the scenario choice screen (sorry for not mentioning that earlier folks)
Well, without the patch installed I actually get an access violation
00507A7B in module "campaignsonthedanube.exe read of address 00F8CDB5
if that helps...; then when the patch is installed...
I get the red X with file not found (but no file is specified) which generally bumps me back to the scenario screen where escape allows me to exit normally.
Please note that the game runs fine elsewhere, so this is a nitpick as far as I am concerned.
