Friendlies in the Way?

I get a persistent problem of "Friendlies in the Way" in Joe's Bridge scenario when trying to bombard. Have a look at the picture below. No matter what I do, or which arty/mortar unit I am using, it is impossible for me to bombard the Brits on the south side of the bridge, although you would think my own forces are far enough from the zone of bombing, no? Is there anything I can do?

I thought that bombardment radius or diameter could be up to 500 meters. Also, remember that a unit's footprint can extend considerably beyond the counter. It's not clear to me from looking at the screenshot that you are not receiving a valid warning message from your battery.

arjuna posted that the existing friendly detection algorithim was pretty crude, and that the boys at panther were discussing the issue.

so my guess is, no, there probably isnt anything you can do.

It's weird because it is the first time it is happening to me. As you can see on the picture, the artillery range yellow box does not go at all over my German units. At best, it is about 350-400 meters from the closest German unit. I have bombarded often enemy units much closer to my own units than this, so this is why I am confused this time it does not work.

Yeah, I tried with all the batteries that were in range and I got the same result, all friendlies in the way. This is a pain in the neck since for now massive arty bombing was pretty much the only quick way I could dislodge these Brits from the southern side of the bridge.

I had the same problem in the Arnhem Historical campain, when a german unit was near a dead or merged friendly unit marker I would get "friendlies in the way". That's probably the problem on your scenario too... :(
