Question on Supply

Just played a campaign as the French (1805 long campaign) and was really struggling to have enough supply for my units. It was only after I captured what appeared to be a supply convoy of 2000 supply that I pulled ahead.

The generic supply tended to be about 60-80 per day, and considering that each corp uses around 20 supply points per day, thats just not enough. I know that I can capture towns, but its only a limited amunt of supply, and any flanking movement means that you are not able to take new towns in areas of heavy fighting.

Any way to reduce either supply consumption or supply in general

cheers

I've noticed exactly the same thing. In fact the situation is worse for the Austrians.

I have mentioned this on the support board but don't know if its deliberate or a design flaw.

One point is that supply consumption increases if you convoy supplies about a lot as the supply wagons eat it. So constantly shipping supplies to and from depots or from the LOC to the corps will increase consumption. Whereas, marching a corps to a depot to replenship its stock doesn't use any extra supply. However, this is not always possible and I think we would still run out.

I thought I was just my lousy gameplay but I'm glad to see that others are experiencing this....it seems that I'm never able to keep my Corps in supply for very long but I think I'm going to turn over supply responsibilities to the computer and see if it does a better job...

I think the supply replenishment rate is set too low.[&:]

I agree. Playing as the French it was sending about 70 supply per day, which is about a quarter of the needs.

As the Austrians, it send about 30 per day and atrites half of that by the time ot gets to the LOC

As the French, send cavalry on foraging forays; upon capturing exotic out of the ways towns, have them send the supplies to your LOC when it gets up to Eckmuhl or thereabouts.

If you hunker down for a few days, the supply trains you send out last week will arrive at the corps.

As the French, if you kill everybody on your front, you can just advance and capture Vienna. Unless I've forgotten something, being out of supply has no penalty except combat.

Have you found this worthwhile?

In my experience capturing a town rarely produces enough supply to replenish the Division that captured it let alone enough to warrant transporting it somewhere else. Mind you if the town was an Austrian Depot thats a different matter. The other point is that detaching whole divisions of cavalry can leave you short on the battlefield and cavalry superiority adds a minimum 25% combat bonus against infantry and artillery up to 50% if the enemy has x3 the amount.

Units without supply also suffer increased attrition and less chance of recovering stragglers when on the march. Units without supply lose 10% of their effective strength per day.

I just tried it in my last game, and it wasnt worth the effort, although it did coup me a nice depot with 4000 supply points in it, and I captured 16 wounded soldiers as well

I have been fighting most of my battles while being out of supply....the delay to supply a new Command Center and then supply the Corps might cause me to run out of time before reaching Vienna, unless I do continue to fight while out of supply..
