In the two years playing this game I have never gotten how Surface force reaction to bases. I have a base at Neva and put a surface taskforce about 3 or 4 hexes away. and send in small transport taskforces to supply a small base. the allies attack and sink the small taskforces, but my ships never react. It happens other times when I have a big base and the allies bombard the base and my surface forces never react even though the are set to react. Any help would be great.

Hi,
Put the most aggressive surface fleet commander you have in command , do the ships have enough fuel once they arrive at there 'patrol hex' ?

Yeah the have plenty of fuel and usually tanaka or any other high agression commander. I only use high agression commanders with surface taskforces.

I think the "raiding" TF has to be spotted before it enters the target base hex for a "react" force to activate. If the first time you see the SC/Bmbrdmt force is when it enters your base, it is too late for the react force to come to the aid of the base.
Suggest you increase the patrol plane presence in the area so that you can see him coming in sooner.

They only react to friendly bases, and only to spotted TF's

I usually place my covering TF in the same hex and make darn sure they are not "docked" when I hit the "turn completed" button if my naval search a/c has a TF spotted steaming my way. I have placed the covering TF at different hexes and it sometimes will "dock" and not react to the enemy's presence. I tend to play it safe and keep them in the hex I'm supplying or landing.
For instance there is always a surface TF at Lunga waiting... in my present game as the IJN, the AI keeps sending a bombardment force up and I've smacked him around a bit surface-wise, but lately he can't get up there because LBA usually put a "fish" or two into the side of the larger capital ships and they turn back. Heh-heh.
Now, due to the lack of supply at PM, he's had to pull all his bombers back to Oz. And it's time to feed those guys at my New Guinea bases.

I just had a surface TF react all the way from Roussell Island to Lunga!! Just blew me away. That has got to be 13 or more hexes.

That's got to be a record. Anyone had a longer reaction?
