Forward bases

I have no experience with UV so please forgive me this queston, but can one have forward bases later in the war. I'm speaking about such bases as Majuro atoll or Ulithi was in real life for the USN. Of course for repair you have to move back to Pearl or West Coast but for smaller repairs, refuelling/supply can one use such bases?

And a totally unrelated question: how many new unit graphics can be added with the editor?

Thanks

22 blanks in Allied aircraft art. (42 x 4 matrix)

14 blanks in Japan aircraft art. (20 x 4 matrix)

Ships use individual files so there really is no limit.

As for your other question, I'm not sure I quite get what you are asking. Any base that is on the front line is a forward base. Any base that isn't is a rear area base.

the answer to your question is yes, but you need to have supplies there. Also to load torpedoes on subs you would need the base to be a size 3 with an AS present and for DD's and CL's/CA's you would need an AD present.

I think he means forward naval bases of the 'mobile' type based on tenders and the fleet train for emergency repairs, minor routine repairs, replenishment and R&R - like the ones established at Majuro and Ulithi. They were not front-line bases in the narrow sence, but they were not rear bases like PH or the West Coast either. For a major repair facility and fleet base, they were quite near the actual 'front', given the distances f the Pacific.
Since tenders and AE ships are in WitP, it should well be possible to establish such a forward naval base at any suitable port hex (i.e. port size 3 or better and protected from imminent dangers like enemy air attacks).

Any base that is on the front line is a forward base. Any base that isn't is a rear area base.

This is an example of the quality responses that only Matrix (and its testers) can provide to its loyal following, and which makes it such a cut above the rest. Thank you.

Isn't the real issue how large a port can be built up to and then stocked with AEs and tenders? (I assume ports can be enlarged, can't they?) Does Ulithi have an unusually high build-out port number for an atoll?

Because you can overbuild further then in UV, *any* base that faces water can pretty much be used for this role.

So WitP will allow expansion of greater than 3 sizes above normal as it is in UV? Very interesting. I'm assuming it'll become proportionately more costly and time comsuming to do so, has it really turned out to be worthwhile?

Hi, No its just like UV you can build a base +3 to what it is rated. Example a base listed as
o (1) port 0 (1) airfield can be built to a max of 4 port and 4 airfield. But then you can move 4xAR there and it will repair ships quite nicely. If AD AS and MLE are there it can reload submarines and destroyer torpedos and mines for minelayers.

Mr. Mogami:

Question about Tenders at Forward Bases, larger then size three or more?

Do Sub Tenders, Destroyer Tenders, and PG Tenders or any tenders have to be part of a particular task force in port to supply? Or, can each individual ship just be in port (not in a task force) or docked.

Are there specialized task groups that must be created (such as replenish task force 45) for such naval missions.

What IS the maximum port size Ulithi can be built up to?
