On-call mortar fire by the AI?

I was curious if on-call mortar fire by the AI in the game is more accurate or more lethal if the mortar units have a TLOS to the units which they are firing upon?
Thanks.

If firing indirect ( at the request of some other unit ), then no. If firing direct on their own initiative, then this will vary from mortar to mortar depending on the values entered in their direct fire range table. In general, I don't think it will matter much. Mortars by their nature are a high trajectory weapon. Save for picking it up in your hands and physically aiming the tube directly at a nearby target ( barely possible with a 60mm but not bigger ), the round is always going to go up.... and then down. They are designed to be an area fire weapon not a direct pin point weapon. Having said that trained crew and FOs could reliably bring down fire and adjust it quickly to hit targets.

I asked because a number of games seem to model mortar fire in LOS as being more accurate than mortar fire out of LOS (meaning LOS of the mortar unit): CC series, CM series, and EYSA-WF.

Yeah, the Close Combat series' artillery model was bodgy as hell to say the least
A 50mm, 60mm or 2" mortar would be more accurate against a visible target since they are not really set up for indirect fire but rather for high-angle direct fire. Anything larger, and the reverse is generally the case.
