Thinking about getting the game

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting the game I have a couple questions.

1. I've heard that the game can slow down enormously when battles are taking place. Is P4 2.6 GHz, 512 Mb RAM and GeForce MX440 enough to play the game comfortably?

2. Are there any more scenarios with the game and can more be downloaded?

I'm really starting to get into wargames and I' want to try the best ones. This looks a like a really good one.

Thanks in advance.

1. Until 10 days ago I used a K7 1GHz, 768 Mb RAM and a Ti4200 to play and test. The game did slow down when large battles where in progress but it was acceptable for me. With my new system I havn't got any slowdowns at all (to be honest I beta'ed only AA:COTA, didn't play AA:HTTR).
Your system should be sufficient to play the game comfortably.

2. AA:HTTR contains:
2 tutorials
34 scenario's

Furthermore a mapmaker and a scenariomaker which enable the player create his own scenario's.

Intel P4/2.53GHz - I never really had any problem with the play speed. Two things you can do to run faster are:

(1) Turn off map anti-aliasing (this is handled by the CPU and not your video card). Personally, I never use it as I feel that it blurs map text.

(2) Don't play for long periods with many units selected (highlighted). Selection causes the highlighted unit's and their subordinate paths to be rendered. The rendering of paths is very CPU intensive for the game.

I have a P4 1.8 and 512 MB RAM. I have never experienced really any major slowdowns even in large battles.

I have a P4/3G, and it runs smooth as silk for me, but your mileage may of course vary. As for scenarios, there are already a ton of scenarios in this game, far more than I can hope to complete any time soon. But I am also curious whether user-made scenarios are available somewhere.

I haven't seen yet user-made scenarios for HTTR. I am currently building one (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=612946), but I don't have an ETA on it for now [:)]

My only question is...why do you not own the game yet? [:D]

I have a 3.0 GHZ system and I have never seen slowdown. Your 2.6 should easily power the game. Just keep all background applications to a minimum.
All the scenarios should keep you very busy. I spent just a week playing the tutorial.

Our development machines are mostly P4 2.6GHz so you should be fine.

Hi guys,

P4 2.6 GHz is a enormous computing power.
But, if you have an old rig like mine, do not despair.

I happily play HttR, as I play RDoA, on an AMD Duron 800 Mhz, 128MB RAM, TNT2 32MB video card. And it rocks. [:)]

OK, to be fair, small scenarios rock. The biggest campaigns (Eindhoven, Arnhem) are slow, sometimes painfully.

As far as I can tell, normal speed simulates 1 minute in 1 second of real time. On larger scenario this is achieved at full speed on my setup. But normal speed is still quite playable.

Big battles tend to freeze from time to time, but never more than 5 seconds. All in all, I nearly always managed to get 24 hours simulated in a 1 hour sitting, including the necessary pauses to give orders, et al. I personnaly find it quite enjoyable.

Only the night time of larger campaigns can be quite boring. Not much action, units should rest and the ones that moves move slower. I often left the computer unattended for 5 to 10 minutes. [:)]

So, 2.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM, whatever modern video card will do just fine. No slowdown to fear, except if you expect Command and Conquer game pace.

My too long cents,

JeF.

I'm on a PIII 800 - 384MB RAM - 128MB graphics card. Haven't done the bigger scenarios yet...but runs just fine so far.

Thanks a lot you guys for the help. As soon as I get some money I'll be racing to the store.
