Why don't Bridges always Blow??

I'm playing the Ardennes Offensive Scenario as the Americans and I've pulled back to a river with towns on it. I want to blow the bridges to be able to concentrate my infantry divisions in other places but can't due to bridges. Sometimes they just don't explode when I hit the red symbol. Whats with that? I don't remember any problems like this in the tutorial but I could be wrong. I makes the sound of rigging explosives then goes gray instead of blowing up. Thanks in Advance.

The units that attempt to blow the bridges don't always succeed. 50% success for combat units and 67% for engineers.

You've described a failed attempt to blow the bridge.

Yes but the failure rate always seems to be very high.

In BIN, the % chance will be recorded in the unit pop up box.
