retreat and reinforcement Hexes in generated battles

Hello,

I don't know if it's because of me or of the game, but I cannot choose de position of the retreat and reinforcement Hexes in generated battle using custom maps.

I seems that each time a battle is generated with a custom map, these Hexes, wich I had previously saved with the map editor, are reset by the program.

Hereafter are some nasty effects recently experienced because of this feature :

- Hexes cannot be placed logically on entry/exit roads.
- Hexes positioned sometimes on river, when the river is oriented East/West. No reinforcement can arrive (or at leat the units I had chosen couldn't, even in shallow water).
- Hexes positioned sometimes in ennemy side (happened once). In that case, your reinforcement come in your opponent's back, and your retreating units rush towards your ennemy !
- Hexes positionned outside the map (ex :0.120 when the map is 90 wide. Happened twice or 3 times). It causes an error. Your reinforcement never arrives, but is taken into account regarding the points added to your opponent.

What is very strange, is that these events happen apparently randomly. Once, the hexes are out of the map. You close the battle, regenerate one immediatly with exactly the same setup, and this time, the Hexes are positioned "correctly", although never where you saved them in the map editor, but in the middle of the first column of Hexes for each side.

Conclusion : is there a "trick" to save theses hexes with the map so that the position is kept when used with a generated battle ? If no, can something be done about that ?

Yeah, it's annoying (although you can still buy off-board stuff even without r-hexes). Hopefully it will get fixed in the v5.0 release.

The retreat/reinforcement hexes must be set and saved in the map editor.

If this is done, they will normally work fine unless in generated battles, the nations involved are attacking from a different side of the map than those used when the map was created.

In generated battles, it is best to go to the map editor and check retreat/reinforcement hexes before creating the battle.

Set the nations to be used in the generated battle and then look to see which side the r hexes are on and relocate them if desired or necessary. Save the map. Generate the battle. All should be well.

That is precisely what I try to do. But up to now, it doesn't work.

Sorry Redleg, but I have already tried that many times, with several different maps, without any success. Have you really succeeded in using custom positionned retreat and reinforcement Hexes in generated battle ? If so, please try to give a step by step process.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards

Thank you very much for the link Kharan. Very interesting, and at least, I see I'm not the only one sweating with this subject :) .

Could anyone from Matrix be kind enough to tell us if something is planned to fix that bug/feature ?

Hello,

Just pushing the thread up to the top. Is there any hope to see that problem fixed soon or later ?

Thanks in advance.

No.

All the other nice questions and wants is added, but the map-save has NOT any room for this. I am crying for it...but all new things make me to forget this loss of loved one...

mosh :D
