Are those screenshots floating around the gaming sites fairly recent?
The backgrounds look wonderful, but the ship in the foreground looks a bit, rough I guess is the word id use. Certainly not a eyesore but something seems 'off'.. perhaps (lack of) detail in the textures?

Could you point us to a specific set? Gamespot...whereever...?

I agree milo´s ships do look a bit rough... Its more the fighters then the cap ships but you can mod the game with some really great lookin stuff so its not as much the engine (even though I do miss bump maps)...

I found the screenhots in question on the shatterstar.com site. Seems to me theres no AA (lots of jaggies) and again bump maping would GREATLY improve eye candy. But I am going to play the demo this week and we'll see. Certainly I perfer game play over eye candy but wouldnt mind some nice visuals as a bonus

Well, AA is an option that's enabled seperately from the game. Milo's el-cheapo video card most likely can't handle it.

Please note I am not trying to be overly critical

Just a observation on my part, nothing more. Either way I look forward to playing the game and the 'jaggies' are certainly not a deal breaker.
Perhaps someone with a decent card could put all the eye candy on and take a few screen shots? Then we could have a more informed debate. As if your accurate then the screens in question are skewed and not in a good way! LOL

It seems Starshatter's own screencap function as well as Fraps won't capture antialiasing. I got one with print screen though.
That's with 2xAA and 4xAF at 1280x1024.

wow.. thats a nice shot! Makes the ships look much 'fuller'. While bump mapping would be icing on the cake I dont think theres much room to complain.
Thanks for taking the time to do this, appreciated.

What is this babble about antialiasign? I was looking individual pixels and I wasn't sure what of them belong to the Spectre and what is space. All right, I had to put my eye almost on the monitor screen so I could see individual pixels. When screen resolution is very high (1024x768+) and objects are in motion, you can't see individual pixels unless you pause game and look very carefully. And if antialiasign is on, you can see all colors don't match.
[edit]My outdated PC can't handle high resolution games or antialiasign even individually not to mention at the same time, so my eye isn't very sharp with this thing. So tell me how important antialiasign and anisotropic filtering are for you and why? I really don't know.[/edit]

AA and AF are important to me simply because it allows me to experience the game with the best possible "quality". Hence I have have a somewhat "older" ATI 9800 Pro. That card buys me alot of quality. If you have access to a friend with a card that supports these features, check it out by playing a 3D game at 800x600 or 1024x768 with and without these features turned on. You will notice a big difference.
For me, past 1024x768 my 44 year old eyes can't see jaggies and I turn off AA. However AF is always set to 8x so that my textures look as the 3D model designer intended.
Just my view.
