Corrupt autorun.exe? But game works OK.

Hmm I installed my game last night twice.
Both times I tried to run the game via the shortcut the installation program placed on the desktop I got the message that :
"autorun.exe was corrupt etc please reinstall the game"
Just in case anyone else gets the same message, I got around it by running "War In The Pacific.exe" (create a new shortcut for it) instead of the "autorun.exe".
Cheers

I had a similar problem, though the symptoms were a little different. Clicked on the WitP icon on the desktop and got something akin to "file decompression error: location IMP1." I'm doing that from memory, and I know the word used was not decompression, but the word meant something like decompression, retrieval, expansion, etc.
Anyway, after downloading the game twice, loading it multiple times in different places, I finally found the same solution you did. Just .exe the game in the game folder. Did not check the path for the shortcut yet - just so relieved to get the game up that problem-solving went out the window.

I was playing SPWAW fine with the intro coming up and then for some reason the intro stopped coming up and I would click on the space button twice to advance to the screen with the options to play. Today I went to play for a few minutes and this dialogue box came up when I clicked on my desktop icon.
" General extraction error, Location IMP1"
So I went to the program menu for SPWAW and created another shortcut, deleted the old one and the game works.

Autorun simply runs the "menu" screen and if theres a problem with it its the screen prg or something missing it wants to load like a menu graphic.
It uses some memory and isn't necessary to run the game through it has links to forum, etc.
Creating a shortcut to game is best, you can also then include alt font option and fine tune properties for game.
Running the game straight savs a bit of Ram without the Autorun menu running in background.
