Exploit?

I have always monitored (and rationed) my artillery ammo use closely just in case of an attack I might need to beat off. I have always considered it a good thing if I have a couple of hundred rounds left after midnight (for any battery)... I just assumed I would have that much more ammo the next day. However, I just noticed that the basic loads in the Estabs are capped and extra rounds are a "use it or lose it" situation. So - needless to say - at 0230 hours now, it's Katie bar the door and it rains ordinance. Not doctrine or historical - but what choice do I have? Comments?

I always try to use up allot of ammo in those rear long range guns.. and save only a few in good supply shape... as long as we get those shells.. and in regard to historical.. the germans didn;t often have the luxury of stockpiling weapons in the latter part of the war, but they had very short supply lines.. just a thought

IIRC, in Red Storm Rising or Team Yankee, when they resupplied, they took ammo from one tank, if it had abundance, to give to the others, so they all ended up with approximately the same load, perhaps this is what's going on (go on, imagine)

I don't see firing off a bunch of ammo at night to be an "exploit" - the supply system might be encouraging slightly ahistorical behaviour, but you're not gaining an advantage by it.

It'd be more exploitative if you could stockpile ammo, I suspect, because then you could choose not to use any fire support one day (despite having ammo) in order to get doubled ammo the next day and really go to town. I can't see that being a historical practice.

Personally, I almost always run very low on ammo as the British, except in the Neerpelt scenarios, so worrying about using or losing it never happens.....
