I need all the advice I can get...im getting slaughtered when doing amphibious assaults. Coastal guns are so far the best weapons I have seen in the game.
They decimate any landing force that wanders in.

I need some step by step advice on how to get better at invading.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Put some cruisers and destroyers into your invasion TF's they will counter battery fire and supress and reduce the number of shots CD units fire at you, with out cruisers and destroyers the CD guns have a good ole turkey shoot.

Anything you send in to supress them gets hammered.
I sent in two TF's with 9 BB's and 14 CA's and over 25 DD's and all the DD's got shot to hell by 5.5 inch guns.
Saipan was even worse.

What option do you choose for CV TF AC to make them attack coastal fortresses? I've only seen Port and Airfield attack for CV divebombers/

Sounds like you are playing scenario 10. All of the landing will be extremely bloody. Get used to dying a lot.

This is what it is all about I can't wait.....[;)]
At least it seams to be more realistic on the assaults and such, making you pay
for all the territory you have to take.

Nope scen 6

I took a draw. It was a bloodbath.
I learned alot though. CD guns are to be feared.
No way in hell you could ever invade Singapore or PH or Battan or Manilla head on.

Invasions are incrediby tricky and require probably the most planning of anything in the war.

FJ,

In six I started with two bombardment TFs with all my BBs after softening things up with airpower. I let the BBs work things over for two days, then I sent in two invasion TFs with CAs, CLs, and LOTS of DDs to accompany all the LSTs and other transports. Worked well, I only lost two DDs and had a handful of damaged transports.

Regards,

- Erik

Bingo ! Guys get UV out of your minds..........these is a whole new ballgame. No longer will you spot TFs as easy as you did in UV, no longer will you be able to waltz onto a beach and plant a flag then have a lunch break. Landings become even more complicated for the allied player later in the game ('44/'45) when you get things like LCI (M), LCI (R) etc, of course by then your IJN opponent will have had a few years to harden the beach. Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Saipan are going to be murder to take back.

Scenario #10 starts with the invasion of Lingayen and the invasion fleets consist of 426 ships in 5 Transport TFs. In those 5 TFs are 15 DEs, 42 DDs, and 1 CL. The total number of ships hit were 1 DD, 2 DEs, 4 LSTs, and 5 LSMs. 2 of the LSMs subsequently sank and 1 LST is in danger of sinking but Lingayen has been captured and the damaged ships are now anchored in the harbor. I think the real key to the success was the presence of 46 LCI(G)s, 12 LCI(M)s, and 11 LCI(R)s. I didn't set up this invasion it is preset when the scenario starts but it is a good lesson in late war invasions.

Based on what Erik said after your last post, my guess is that you neglected to actually "build bombardment" TF's. Their capability to bombard is probably halved or worse if you gave them some other main purpose, and if you didn't have that as a secondary purpose it could be even worse (just guessing mind you).

While expermenting with the toturial, it does apear that if the Transports are not acompined with a CA or two they will indead get slaughtered. Also Whearing the guns down by Bombardment from BB's semas to work well, that and suply atration by bombing ect. I took Guam in the Toturial by doing this, the last group I landed in LST's and LSD's took no signafagant damage at all from Shore guns.

.................

Interestingly though, I did try to use a fast transport groupe or two to help suply the Forces on Guam while I was sluging it out and they took no damage at all from SB's at any time.
