Ok I'm part of a destroyer squadren and when I transfered in only my destroyer and 1 frigate was left. Now a few missions later only I'm left and my hull is at 77% damage yet they are still giving me missions to take out destroyers that are conviently surrounded by about 3-4 destroyers and frigates. IRL they'd pull back my destoyer squadren and put in a fresh unit. Otherwise it's just throwing away a damaged destroyer to complete a sucidal mission

Not much you can do with just yourself and 23% hull, except maybe cover a carrier, and that isn't very exciting, most of the time. I'd suggest transferring back to the fighter squadron for the moment. If you are on Highland, there (spoiler?) should be a fresh destroyer squadron transferring in soon.
