DEMO - Changing Nav Points?

I am probably just misunderstanding something in the demo but I was curious about Nav Points.
I understand how they work on the map and that the autopilot will take you from one nav point to the next if you keep it engaged.
However, it appears that the autopilot will only allow you to fly from one nav point to the next. Is there way - and if so, how - to skip between nav points?
Example - I engage the enemy before getting to nav point 4. By the time it's over I really want to go to nav point 5. But when I engage the autopilot the craft begins back towards nav point 4 because I didn't "tag" it yet. Can this be changed?
