I had to exit a game just now to ask a nagging question. Why do some of my ai ships selectively choose to ignore me? i dislike it when i start the simulation and the first thing i hear is 'tanner engaging lanner'. i try to convince the ai ship that it is probably not a good idea to engage a bigger ship just yet, but the captain appears to be overcome by blood lust . no matter how many 'move patrol' orders i give, it still wants to engage the ship, which it does, and gets summarily destroyed. i am sure there is some command that i am missing that will keep my warmonging wingmen in line. any suggestions woul be appreciated.

Hmm. If an AI ship does not respond to orders, first check that it has a nav-point... If it doesnt, assign it one and try again. If you are still having problems, Cancel Orders and try again. Ships on "Move Patrol" should not engage enemy vessels that are already 'detected' when you give the order. AFAIK.

Almost, but not quite. Ships are currently permitted to defend themselves when given a "move patrol" order. If they detect a threat along the way to the patrol point, they will engage.
I am adding a "Hold" command to the tactical action menu to order any AI ship to hold its fire until given a countermanding order.

outstanding!, i think the 'hold fire' command is just what the doctor ordered.

i also find that the "form up" command seems to work well, they will still fire if the enemy comes into range but wont fly out to engage
