Long delay after Ground Combat Report

My environment:

Win 98
PIII-500
362mb RAM
DirectX 9.0b
nVidia GE-Force MX-200 video card w/ recent drivers
Ensoniq 5201(?) sound card w/ recent drivers
WiTP + 1.10c + "Registration" patches installed
(N.B. sound is working - I do like the pan pipes music ...)

This problem manifested during the combat replay for the first historical turn of the full campaign (scen 15), playing hotseat (head to head). Combat animations are on.

Consistently, after the Ground Combat Report had been displayed and the Done button had been clicked, there was a long delay of c.10-20 seconds prior to things moving on. Little or no hard disk activity was observed during this time and no hitches heard in the music/sound stream.

Hardly a show-stopper, more odd than anything else, especially since Air and Naval Combat Reports did not suffer the same issue.

P.S. Thanks for turning the volume down on the "button click" sound, makes life a lot more pleasant for old farts like me with a recruitment problem in one ear ... [:)]

Update:

This get worse as you play more. It seems to be the same problem as in Becket's thread

Workaround is to completely turn off sound which will do for now I guess ... [:)]
