Keeping Squads together

Is there any way to force the AI to keep squads together rather than running all over the system? It's really frustrating if I go off on another mission (for a different squad) and see that it's all over the place, or the original squad when I return is out of order. It wouldn't be so bad but if the AI spreads out you lose ships left and right because you've got no support (or the AI loses them).

It's especially annoying after the run I just made where I took a cruiser squad across two systems destroying a grand total of 3 cruisers, 8 destroyers, 4 frigates, and a carrier. All in one run (thank god I learned how to effectively use my torps). Best part, I came out with no ship under 75% hull (well, my own ship got beat up below that but that's because I got close to the carrier trying to get those last shots in to kill it before it quantum jumped and I was in the blast radius with reduced shields (so I could slow down faster for more room to fire))

Usually I assign some navpoints manually in the planning phase so the AI ships support each other better. Should work.

I feel like an idiot, I never knew you could give orders to other ships (outside you're squad).

The enemy possesses one massive trojan horse, however- whenever you are manipulating navpoint orders in the planning phase it disrupts the music, possibly sending you into bouts of madness, rage, and frustration. A cunning strategy...
