Controlling air support

I was wondering why bombers (whether fighters or tactical bombers's) persist in veering well off target hexes to attack the armour in the rear. I have noticed that bombs do not kill tanks as readily as they kill infantry, so I'd rather bomb enemy troops, and deal with the tanks when they show up. I'd just like then to drop within 5 hexes; I'm asking for the accuracy of FO's with lasers and GPS. Just to Carpet bomb where I want.

Remember your talking about aircraft racing over the battlefield at 300+ mph. Smoke, poor directions, AAA fire can all play a factor in what your air support attacks. And as far as laser range finders and gps, you'll have to wait till SPMW is released or go back and play SPIII

I just checked my question; i meant to say that I am NOT asking for the accuracy of modern systems... Additionally, this is happening to me on the opening bombardment (ie: sans smoke), and the bombers get to overfly my own front-line trace as an IP.

Wait until your pilots target your own troops! That's fun! There is a way to minimize all this by adjusting the flight path, but they'll still "do their own thing" all too often. Many times I've had to destroy every single enemy vehicle on the map before my planes would go after the infantry I wanted them to target. Get used to it.

In v5.0, you will have the option of carpet bombing.

The flyboys have a very hard time seeing infantry on the ground. They can see trucks and tanks much more easily so they usually go after them just because they are easier to spot from the air.

Just had an idea:
How about having two different fire requests for aircraft, like "search and destroy" (against vehicles etc.) and "pound the #ยค&* out of that hill" (attack a designated hex). I guess that shouldn't be impossible to implement nor historically unrealistic. I think it would compliment the carpet bombing feature quite nicely, eh?

This has actually helped me out! I've had Stukas attack tanks that have appeared and surprised me in the intervening time since I gave the order to attack another hex. They haven't destroyed the tank, but they have caused them to rout and gave me time to readjust my forces for when they rally and press the attack again.
