I dont know if you'd be keen on flying them, they're the shuttles you escort all the time. The most exciting thing they'd do is land troops on the surface, but even then all'd you be doing is dodging enemy fighters. They cant carry missiles, so you'd want to leave the 'wild weasel' (SAM and AAA elimination) missions to stormhawks or t-bolts.
You can make a custom mission and fly one (or its enemy equivalent) all you want. They're fun to mess with cuz thye're VTOL and they can land anywhere on a planet.
However, since they're arent (yet anyways) any ground forces in SS, there prolly wont be any 'amphibious' assault missions anyways.

PS Speaking of which, whatever happned to those grav-tank experiments someone was doing a looong time ago?

Side note, you *can* launch SAM sites and the like from a flight deck... they fall instantly.
