Does anyone have a IJN ship count breakdown in 12/41? How many total ships of each type, and maybe organized by class? Would love to know how many CLs, DDs, AKs, etc. I know I can pull up the active ships list, but I can't count that high on the AK's.

There is a Japanese ships OOB (CSV file) in the WITP Fansite - maybe you could use it ?

Simple answer ... nowhere near enough to cover even a quarter of what Japan needs to do.
I have to chuckle about people complaining about the poor AI sending ships around without escort when *I* have to send ships around without escort. Sometimes you really have to step back and remember there is a reason Japan lost the war. They didn't have enough of ANYTHING. [:D]
6 CV, 2 CVL, 2 CVE, 4 Fast BB, 6 Slow BB, 18 CA, 21 CL, 125 DD, 12 APD, 59 SS, 3 AD, 2 AE, 1 AR, 8 AS, 5 AV, 3 CS, 38 ML, approx 100 MSW, approx 140 PC/PG

In my PBEM I send TFs areound all the time with little to no escort simply because... uhm... well.. I don't have anything other than a PG or PC to send with it.. And half the time I don't bother sending them because they have about no range. If the US didn't care about losing its CVs and sent them on a rampage through the DEI and SRA in mid feb, they would probably bag a LOT of IJN TFs without any sort of escorts... Or even a good Combat TF... BUT, you have to realize they won't make it back out... between the IJN CVs and LBA the TF will die a swift death once found... but you could easily kill a dozen or more merchies and possibly even some warships and APs carrying troops if you got a little lucky..

I'm doing that already with sub concentrations. I've bagged 4 AP's, 16 AK's, and have wounded 2 CA's and CL so far and it's only Feb 1. However, those are very aggressive sub tactic in shallow water right near known Japanese target bases. I've lost 6 subs in the process. But no need to sacrifce CV's.

Whether or not you and the developers are ever going to admit it, the game has an AI "Death Spiral" flaw that a solitaire player has to try and avoid exploitng to keep the game playable.

You can send the PGs. They will fuel themselves from the AKs and/or TKs. Same goes for Minesweepers.
I am currently thinking that Japan actually has an excess of ASW escort craft. No doubt I am being hugely naive ...
