I guess that depends on your definition of what is "pain" and what is "pleasure".[:D]
I'm doing one day turns myself. And there is not enough time in a day for this game! I haven't even read the manual yet![:)]

One turn as well... I tried to do a calculation last night. At the moment I've averaging three turns a day, so how long will it take to get through the whole campaign? Impossible to work out, because apart from potential intervention by wives and the like, as I start my counter-offensives in a big way, each turn is likely to take longer. I'm guessing about 18 months....

1 day turns against the AI, don't plan on playing much into '43 anyway. Just want to try turning the tide. Playing PBEM, 2 or 3 day turns might be the way to go.

One day but in December 41 with Allies I spend so far mostly quick turns checking up on supply convoys and then ending turn quickly. Once you get the hang of what you need to focus on, it goes quickly other then my 20 minute turn resolution cycle.... I have learned to walk away and come back during some portions of the turn resolution. Pet the dog, kiss the wife, beat the kids, etc... and check out the first combat summary.

The two wives later, you get to do it all over again playing the other side...

You know you can change the cylce length on the fly? In lazy times, I have a 2 day cycle, in fast times a 1 day cycle. I found that 2 day cycles don't save that much time since the computer calculates each day separately

I have not started the Grand Campaign yet. Too Intimidated and time concerned I guess. I was looking at Three day turns if I do it. I just see it taking two hours minimum per turn to go check everything, set recon blah blah blah. Just trying to manage the Philippines for the first few months is got to be a nightmare. I am looking at doing it as Allied.

I recommend the 1-day turn at least to start the campaign. A lot happens in December 1941 and one day at a time enables you to see it all...I'm playing PBEM and I guess we might space out the turns into 2-3 days later....like when all the Jap carriers are sunk.

While playing the AI I sometimes switched to continuous play and disabled the combat popups, e.g. when I set my invasion TFs and was now just waiting for them to arrive... (while playing AI you can switch it on-the-fly in the preferences) Playing smaller scenarios with limited goals that is.

I use 1-day turns. Turn 1 took me over 10 hours, but I jumped straight in without a lot of learning, so it was an issue of "Okay, this is a submarine -- what do I do with submarines?"
Turn 2 took me about 5 hours; turn 3 took closer to 2 hours.
Now, it is possible to do a turn in about 20 minutes -- and much of that is watching the computer play through its turn.
Like others here, this is the time when I go and get myself a new coke, fix a sandwich, start a new load of laundry.
(You don't need to even do this -- there are ways to speed through this procedure. I actually enjoy the opportunity for a break.)
Once you get this huge behemoth moving, it has a great deal of inertia. You watch it move from turn to turn, and make a few minor mid-course corrections along the way.
If you get a major project, that takes a few minutes more (depending on how much planning you do).
I play an average of about 3 turns in an evening; more on weekends.

I'm doing two day turns - just to move it along a bit quicker, take a little control away from me, and of course add a little unpredictability to the game..
