Now that we've got a lot of the changes out of the way - time for a new set of AAR's.

This game I am both Axis partners (Germany & Japan), so it will be interesting to see how a cooperative strategy can work.

Germany - Spring 1940

Our forces made the standard moves this time around - taking the Low Countries, Denmark, France & Norway with little or no losses on our part. We also moved substantial forces to North Africa in hopes of nailing the coffin on England's empire before the Americans come into play.

Japan - Spring 1940

For Japan, we need to put the hurt on the Chinese to prevent them from becoming a threat down the line. This turn was taken up with moving our forces into position for the next series of attacks.

Soviets -- Spring 1940

The Capitalists and the Fascists are at war, but we sit secure in our Communist Utopia. The results of the 1939 wargames have been discussed and a new modernization plan is underway to address perceived weaknesses in the glorious RKKA.

In other words, not much happened. [:D]

Germany - Summer 1940

Our focus has turned - production has been increased & more troops have been sent to the Med.


Japan - Summer 1940

Our aircraft & troops seized the Fouchow Province. Further reinforcements will allow us to continue our steady advances into the Chinese heartland.

Soviets, Summer 1940.

On the surface, Stalin commands and the Ribbentrop/Molotov pact is in place.

However, below the surface, a desperate group of generals sees a massive ramp up in German production that can mean only one thing: invasion. This Bleak Cabal has covertly put a plan in place to prepare the Soviet Union for eventual invasion. What they manage to accomplish remains to be seen, as the country remains frozen under Uncle Joe's iron fist.

We sit and watch the German war machine massing in the Middle East, and wonder how that battle will turn, as our undefended south gnaws at our minds.

Edit: This is a good time to point out the situation that faces the Soviet player. The USSR is frozen, so you cannot move troops. You can build troops in areas that have factories, but very few of the initial front line areas have factories (three, I believe). So, one of the choices the Soviet player faces is where to build units, and how best to plan for the crucial first year of the invasion. I expect this game to be a lot of fun as we test paullus's refined invasion strategies against some of my Soviet defensive thinking.

WA move Summer of '40.

The Home fleet sorties to the med to put down the Italian Fleet which sits in the Central Med supporting the Axis forces driving on Egypt. A couple of Capital Ships on each side are damaged and both sides sub forces are annihilated. The Axis fleet is forced back into the Adriatic ( Score one for the good guys ).

On a sad note, one carrier air wing is damaged and its mother ship flees back to the British Isle to await its rebuilding.

British aircraft also attack the Axis forces outside Egypt damaging a tac-air and artillery unit. ( Score two for the good guys ).

Built a lot of supply ( 50 pts worth ) and invested a bit in research. Spent most of my production on building units.

Germany - Fall 1940

Despite some minor setbacks in the Med, our plans continue to move forward. We reinforced some areas, subdued unruly Yugoslavia with no problems & look forward to the coming year....

Fall 40, Soviets:

"Lucy" has given good intel, and the activities of the Germans on our borders cannot be ignored. We've sacked Voronov, and under the direction of new director of artillery Comrade Billingsov, we have initiated a new program to strengthen the Red Army.

WA Fall of '40

Pushed the Axis out of Egypt without any loss. Moved a lot of supply generated in the US to England and the Middle East. Research is moving ahead nicely. Axis U-boats have been fairly silent so far in this game. I doubt that will remain that way for long.

Well I figured being a historical game, we should try to stay up on such things.

Germany - Winter 1940/41

We go into the winter months reorganizing our forces. Not much else to report. The Allies control the Med - we've given up on trying to get them out of there for the moment. It will be a while before the US joins things, so we should be able to hold our own.

Japan - Winter 1940/41

Our campaign against China continues at a brisk pace. A huge battle was fought in Central China, against the units of the AVG & the majority of the regular Chinese army. Despite some losses on our side (mostly damaged), we managed to destroy the defenders & captured the key province. We are now within striking distance of the Nationalist capital. Production continues on supplies & our research is seriously lacking.

This move into central China will cost the Japanese 3 resources per turn that the US normally gifts to Japan. Since Japan has only 10 resource centers at start, this is a serious hit to Japanese production. However, Changsha does have it's own resource center that Japan can repair and use now that it's captured, so this can make up for some of the loss.

Winter, 41: Soviets

We know the hammer will fall on us soon, so we scramble to get our defenses in place. I've tried to strike a balance between quantity of defenders v. quality, we'll see how well that goes.

Here's a screen showing the status of Soviet research efforts:

Winter '41 Western Allies

Not much happening. Killed the German militia in Tobruk. Reinforced the Med with another ship or two.. [:D].
Built more supply and researched like crazy.

Highlights of research:

Fighters MP ( movement points ) now up to 2.
Light Fleets Anti-Sub Level now 2.
Bombers LA ( Land Attack ) now at 6.
Artillery LA now at 7.


China -

News is not good. It looks like Japan is making China a priority. They have attacked in-land. The good news is that my factories should be at full production starting next turn. They will pay dearly for their transgressions....

Germany - Spring 1941

In preparation for a major strategic advance, we unleashed our carefully horded U-Boat forces & devastated the Atlantic shipping lanes - clearing them of Allied shipping.

We also used our airpower to assist us in this effort....marking a new era in combined arms naval warfare.

We proceeded to finish our force reorganization & are very happy with the looks of things to come.

Japan - Spring 1941

Operation Nichi-Go was a complete success. The Nationalist Armies have been crushed before underneath our boots & their leaders are on the run from our victorious forces. With the Chinese capital in our possession, along with the majority of Chinese industry & the resources to run it - we look forward to a period of defensive shifts and reoganization in preparation for future operations.

There are only scattered Chinese regular forces remaining - but not for long.
