Ok, I want to try to build a mod for this game. Can anyone point me to some good links describing the process? I remember seeing a few good topics on the old forum but I searched and couldnt find them.

Might want to try contacting the people doing mods on wingcommander & babylon 5 if you don't get contacted via this thread soon. You could probably enlist some support from people from the various battletech sites. Including Battletechmodproductions ? I think hmm Mektek! Dropship command ? Best of luck!

Personally the hardest part of modding for me is getting the models and textures. That just kills me. I'm not very good at it and i'm ungodly slow at modeling/texturing to boot.
Are you going to develop your own independent mod?
Mods I've thought about...
-Zeppelins and such combat. They'd really be more like air warships than zepps, though. My view of this is kinda based off a SF short story, whose name and author I can't remember. It was set in a world where the atmosphere was very very thick, so the bullets on planes and such had to be rocket assisted. It was kinda WWII era tech. I just thought that'd be pretty cool... I mean I had a hell of a lot of fun when I was fiddling with BT Dropships in atmosphere, so I thought this might be entertaining. I'll just say it looks real awesome when a ship loses engines and falls slowly to its doom.( don't get your hopes up folks; I didn't really get anywhere. It's very hard to do bt Dropships. BTW, Milo, if you're reading this- is there any way to prevent a craft from stalling *ever* besides LCA?)
-Expanding starshatter. There's no particular reason you can't add onto Starshatter base gameplay. A TC is a daunting amount of effort, after all.
-And much more..
But what are you looking for? DEFing information?
For that, try

It's invaluable for first figuring out ship DEFs although a little dated.
Then Mehrune's site has advanced parameters:

Mostly mektek rocks as a resource for getting things put into mechwarrior 4. not sure about how they would react if you just wanted the models and textures. They may however have a utility for pulling the mechs out of the files. That may be useful to you. I lvoe Battletech. been modding FS2 for about 3 years now, just saw this today.....downloading it now but it looks promising. Anyway...if i like the game i may join you in this Btech Mod, once i figure out the mission editor that is. Mission building is what i do at HLP for FS2. anyway.....lcuk to you in this one.
