Can Vals attack airfields?

Hi,
does anybody know if Vals can attack land targets? When I send them on airfield attack missions they don't show up on the combat report. Only the Kates are listed. Are they only armed with AP type bombs and therefore useless at ground attack? With the Zeroes unable to carry bombs, carrier strikes against airfields from Japanese Carriers don't seem to have much effect in UV. Makes you wonder how they did so well at Pearl Harbour!

In UV, you only see level bombers listed in the combat reports. The dive bombers don't get listed, but they are there. Watching the combat animations should show them going in.

Probably my 4 squadrons of Wildcats scared them off [:D]

Either that or they felt it beneath their samurai status to attack mere concrete! I think I'll stick to attacking carriers with them from now on!

Vals are the only Japanese planes able to close an airfield. Better keep the Kate on naval attack to avoid any surprise and have a low fatigue and use Val with primary naval attack/secondary airfield attack if you want to close an airfield. Kate do less damage and the fatigue and losses are not worth it.

Actually unless in a critical need, I do not ever recommend using Vals and Kates to attack airfields. They are too easily shot down and the pilots are too difficult to replace. This only applies to a base that is well defended.

Close the base with surface forces and then follow up with bettys and nells. Save the Vals and Kates to deal with carriers and surface forces.

Once a base is closed, it is OK to send in the Vals and Kates, but don't waste them.
