My AVG is king of the skies over Rangoon! They 'claimed' 9 zero's last night, along with several Betty's, to the loss of two P-40's.

They are one of the best air units in theatre. Argueable the best...

Well, in my game they have claimed quite a few victories, but now they are short on a/c. 4 P-40's against 30+ Zero's ain't my idea of a fair fight. [:-]

Too bad the AVG never actually faced any Zeke's.

I made the mistake of dividing the unit and got it slaughtered.

I actually tried to dispose of them historically. Learned that the Chinese cannot provide them enough support by a longshot. Then sent them to Burma where they performed with mediocrity. Then I just dumped that game and started another. [:)]

AVG rules is an understatement!
I split them into their A,B & C squadrons and used them around Rangoon and Mandalay.
Results by mid May 1942 :
Japanese Air - Air losses (all theatres) : 1,144
AVG (A) - 307 kills
AVG (B) - 257 kills
AVG (C) - 245 kills
Total AVG - 809 kills!
ie over 70% of all air - air kills in my campaign game so far have been by the AVG.
This is mainly due to the fact that my AI opponent seems to be hell bent on taking Rangoon or perish
in the attempt.
And to boot I think the avg. experience level of the squadrons is rising....
Cheers

I wouldnt beleive that if I were you. If the AVG rules anything it would be the kingdom called "overstating their kills". [:D]

They fair alot better than the Brits and Auzzies in Burma and India at this Jan 15th time......Hurricanes just don't have the legs.
Also.....play shell game..........today an AVG sqd is here........then move it,send it to china assign it LRC missions, anything to keep the Japs guessing and tiedown some of their better fighters.

Depends on if its a PBEM. I doubt the AI will chase the AVG.

Now cut it all in about half and you'll have actual numbers. In my PBEM game (I'm japan) the AVG always claims a ton of kills.. they claim 10.. I actually lose more like 3 or 4... So if you cut your number in half you have a better estimate of actual kills.. BUT, even at half it is am impressive number... In my PBEM game some looser named Browning (AVG pilot) has 16 kills - highest in the game... I've tried everything to kill him... just can't find him... I thinks its time for the Ninja...

My AVG seemed to have a REALLY crappy servicablillty rate though. THey had the pilot and planes a level 8 field and 200AV Spt and they were the sole users of the strip. Yet it was extremely rare to see more than 25 planes ready.

Yep I know they tend to brag! However I thought the intelligence screen didn't suffer from Fog Of War as opposed to the combat reports.
My top pilots list has got 3 AVG pilots with 30+ claimed kills. Although some of these pilots have now disappeared into the ether, they're not listed as KIA, WIA, MIA or retired they just vanished after 15 - 20 missions??
Cheers
